Just watched A Clüsterfünke Christmas on Comedy Central. Surprised it took so long to get a parody of Hallmark Christmas movies.
I watched this one last night after seeing it listed in the holiday movies on demand. Where God Left His Shoes I saw this years ago not knowing anything about it, and it left a strong impression on me. It's been years since I've seen it. Very good movie, great performance by John Leguizamo and the young actor who plays his stepson. Most of it takes place on Christmas Eve, but besides that not sure if it counts as a Christmas movie or not.
I won't mince words, Christmas movies are nauseating. But to contribute to the good spirit I nominate this one as NO. 1 - Scrooge (1970, Ronald Neame) A musical retelling of Charles Dickens' classic novel about an old bitter miser taken on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions. A bit stodgy than the 1951 A Christmas Carol, which is 2nd on my list of 2.
Venturing off the beaten path but full of fun and soul: The Great Rupert 1950 Bonus- Terrie Moore. A Child's Christmas in Wales 1984 From a Dylan Thomas prose poem, a child's perspective of Christmas, with a very nice narration from Denholm Elliott.
Yesterday the wife and I watched the Arnold Schwarzenegger directed Christmas in Connecticut (1992) with Dyan Cannon, Kris Kristofferson and Tony Curtis. Despite some badly directed moments it actually ended fairly well. However, the original Stanwyck version is this household's fave classic. Last night I watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which takes place during the holidays. Funny how Shane Black has around 4 action movies around Christmas, and one that went unfilmed.
