  1. Lifetime's new Christmas Harmony is great, particularly for music fans. It's about a songwriter that gets dumped by her famous musician boyfriend and returns home.

One Magic Christmas is sort of a takeoff on It's a Wonderful Life. I enjoyed it.

Two of my favourite Christmas films never seem to get shown on TV here in the UK - The Shop Around the Corner and the Cheaters. Both unavailable on DVD apart from unofficial discs sold cheap on Ebay
I might buy one if it doesn’t get shown this Christmas.

Thanks Michael. Of your recommendations, we have now watched:
Spirit of Christmas. Enjoyed it. Seems like Kurt was revisiting his Elvis impersonation during the jam!)
Man who Saved Christmas - we own this one. Funny to see him in a role not as a sleazy slimy George Kastanza.

We'll get to those others you recommended soon.

I never appreciated the original movie until I saw it last year at a theater (I never saw it when it was new, only in bits on pieces on TV). Completely different experience watching it from beginning to end with no distractions. It's a really well done movie.

My favorite is "Last Christmas," with Nick Frost as Santa and a bit of Slade.

I kept flipping back to a station doing Lifetime movies (not Lifetime) a few nights ago and I would sketch the plot out after seeing the movie for 5 minutes.
Funny how easy it was to pick out the beautiful yet cold inside girl from the schlubby girl who looked fabulous in an expensive dress and heels.
The wife said that there were so many of these films based on chance meetings/kisses/attractions in an elevator she wondered if this was some sort of Hollywood male fantasy.

Christmas movies are a Holiday escape where ppl are happy which these days is a rarity...I like happy endings yet so far removed from real life due to many crazy nuts that go after the normal things we've grown up with...destroying Christmas.... where a scumbag substitute teacher tells 5&6 year old children in her class THERE'S NO SANTA! WTF....where's the outrage? it's sickening...give me a sugary Christmas movie any day...

Half the fun of those Hallmark/Lifetime movies is calling out the cliches. My wife and I make it a game (as do many others, I'm sure).

Reference to deceased family members? Check. Christmas tree lot? Check. Some kind of winter festival/parade? Check. Conspicuous Balsam Hill product placement? Check. Public domain Christmas carols? Check. Protagonist who is a writer/journalist? Check. Snowstorm? Check. Interrupted kiss? All but guaranteed.
