My rule on these boxes is they have to be performances at a level I want to hear ASAP, not music I might want to hear years later. That essentially knocks out 90% or more of boxes from consideration. I'd much rather pay full price for individual classical CDs I know are excellent than a box set that works out to $1 or 2 per disc that won't be listened to much; the latter is actually more expensive in that scenario. On streaming the thread starter made a really interesting thread here: The Modern Classical Listener - Streaming and Beyond... My dream scenario would be getting something like what he did where you have full control of your local collection. ie you control the quality of selection, quality of mastering, no Universal watermarks, etc. Roon 1.8 is apparently a massive jump up from 1.7 in how it integrates large classical collections. I could stream music whole house between two houses and my office never having to rely on the quality of what is online.
The box is no-brainer for me, but there is one major disappointment. Sony did not in all cases keep the original couplings. One in particular that brings me sadness is the Prokofiev 7th, which wad originally paired with an RPO recording of Lt. Kije under Efrem Kurtz.
The listing I purchased from clearly stated 77 discs and there is that separate listing for the sampler so I'd be shocked and disappointed to find they mislisted the sampler as the Box Set. We shall see. Interesting to note...their new/current listings for this item now have much lower buying prices and higher shipping prices.
True, not sure what was the reasoning behind these choices. Some are exact replicas of the original LPs, like the Schuman-Kircher coupling with Mitropoulos and some are not.
I am currently obsessed with the 9 Beethoven symphonies and am looking to add the Karl Bohm cycle from the Vienna Philharmonic. https://www.amazon.com/Collectors-B...a5d1&pd_rd_wg=Bbl7e&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mr_hp_d Does anyone know if the above linked set currently in-print and available on Amazon is the same mastering/sound as the three 2-CD sets of this cycle released back in the 1990's. See link below. BEETHOVEN 9 SYMPHIONIES & 5 OVERTURES Karl Bohm Wiener Phil. DG 6 CD New Sealed | eBay Thanks
Mine shipped media mail in the US. The $7 Vivaldi Masterworks also shipped, and presumably that won’t be a single disc sampler, which gives me some cause for optimism...
There is some chance this will happen but then I'll get my money back through PayPal because that is clearly not the item I purchased. So no harm in trying. So tracking is included even on non domestic orders? They mentioned it on domestic order but maybe that's just a copy/paste description they use for everything. Try the ePost website for tracking, seems like it is what they used to ship.
To those who have bought Perlman complete recordings on Warner: sorry, but you have bought the sampler. This number is the key: 0825646078097. This number is the EAN: The International Article Number (also known as European Article Number or EAN) is a standard describing a barcode symbology and numbering system used in global trade to identify a specific retail product type, in a specific packaging configuration, from a specific manufacturer. If you search by ean number you'll find out which product is. In this case the sampler of that box. Sorry for the bad news. Itzhak Perlman Complete Warner Recordings box has 0825646150694 as EAN. And for me Perlman is one of the very best violinists of all time. I could buy this box two years ago at Amazon UK by 150 €.
Honest question cause I don't know: how can I see the EAN code of my Discogs order? It is not shown anywhere I looked and everything in the order brings me back to the big box page. But anyway, if I'll get the sampler I'll get a refund, so no problem. And even if I don't get a refund, I'd have spent less than 20€ so no real problem there.
At the bottom of the page, it's the barcode. Then you must do a search using the word ean + the number and you'll see what product is.
Re the Perlman box, there seems to be one for sale now from pop.market with the correct barcode - 825646150694 - for $8.65! https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/1355374051
Thank you, that's on the discogs entry page right? Because if that is the one, then in the page I end up from my order there is the correct one, that is the one from the big box.
The are a lot of negative reviews, 1759 to be exact, on discogs about pop market, most describing that the wrong item was sent.
Yeah, there are some on the Intl seller (the one I bought from) when I quickly checked but it was worth a shot. I'm not too positive, not too negatove either. The thing I'm positive about is the eventual refund with PayPal, there's no way, given the circumstances, that I'm not getting it should I need it.
It is definitely worth a shot, especially if you are paying with paypal. I will take a chance myself, for $12 it is not a big deal.
In my order receipt, the bar code and upc information corresponds to the 77 disc set. Has disc identifiers for all 77 individual discs. Not that it's confirmation they didn't make an error but we will find out shortly. It cost me $11 I'll get back if it's the wrong disc. The reward potential more than outweighs the risk.
I can't, for the life of me, find the info on EAN or UPC code anywhere in my order, nor in the app, nor in the desktop website, nor if I print my receipt from the website. The only thing I know is that the product listed in the order, when clicked on, brings me to the complete set page with the right EAN code (and nowhere in the description there is an hint on the sampler disc). It's my first order on Discogs and, as you can see, I'm a complete newbie
Hmmmmmm Bruckner13 I'm not sure where you are finding the Barcode ending in 8097...Every listing I clicked on lists 77 Discs and also lists the CORRECT 0694 Barcode...Also has detailed information on 77 Discs... Admittedly I've been waxing conspiratorialist in recent years, but if the subject purchases turn out to be the sampler, does anyone think this is a tactic to get people to buy the 77-CD set?
