Cheers. I bought it partly because I have enough Beethoven sonata sets to last my lifetime and also a number of Ashkenazy's solo Chopin CDs, so minimal overlap with what I already had.
So the Orpheus DG box is still Out-of-Stock in most online specialist stores. Exceptions include Presto, which now has a GIANT mark-up on the initial price (ended up being more than $180 to ship to the US). For a record conglomerate as big as Universal, one would think supply for such a popular title would not be an issue. Maybe more are being reprinted, similar to what apparently happened to the Emerson String Quartet box a couple years ago?
Are there many taxes if you buy from Europe (Italy)? I like that box, but I don't want to spend more THAN 70/80 Euro...
The Scriabin sonatas are where most of my duplication will be, as I have the Decca Complete Scriabin box. They are mixed in with other piano works in that box, so I am happy with them being collected together in the Ashkenazy set along with original covers.
An interesting set coming in January - it's nice to see some different packaging! Not quite mega at 20 CDs, but the Weiner Philharmoniker Deluxe Edition Vol 1: https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/deluxe-edition-vol-1/hnum/10298043
I saw this happening in Hunterdon County NJ and Bucks County PA after several instances of Delaware River flooding a number of years ago.
I think this is the same type of packaging which was used by DG for their Chopin Deluxe set. It is terrible (the packaging, not the music). Looks nice, but is terribly designed and inconvenient. The cds are very tightly squeezed into thick cardboard pages and it is practically impossible to pull them out without either scratching the cd or damaging the packaging.
Ah, the CDs in cardboard pages sound a bit like the Sony Elvis sets From Elvis In Nashville and Back in Nashville - a bit of a nightmare!
I emailed Warner again about the Saint-Saëns Edition replacement CD and they were sent out last week. Not sure I'll get mine before xmas, but people in the UK and Europe should hopefully.
Wow USPS! The Sony Rampal box was shipped Friday 12/03 via Media Mail from the Alliance Entertainment (ImportCDs.com) warehouse in Shepherdsville Kentucky, and it is out for delivery in Arizona today, Tuesday 12/07. I am impressed USPS!
Are we talking the same as the Berlin Phil live sets? I have the Sibelius, and it looks nice but is impractical
Idle speculation time: Will there be a Koussevitzky box set in the future? We saw the care that was taken to release the mono Ormandy legacy in great sound. Other box sets( such as Monteux RCA) have included many old recordings from the days of 78s which have been reproduced in very serviceable sound quality. We know that a Mitropoulas box set is coming to the market in 2022.

It has been listed as a future item with Amazon.co.uk for two years, with the date being continuously pushed out.
Nothing against Norman, of course, but I question this marketing tactic. The long advance notice for Furtwangler gave me enough time to decide against it. Others may feel differently.
Nice looking box. I can see that sitting on my shelf one day. Well, when I buy another shelf, no room free at the moment
