You mean the Toscanini Collection CDs? :eek:I had bough back in the 90s the complete set one by one. I remember ordering for two friends around 2000/01 the complete set that came in a special window with a baton from berkshire record outlet (it costed around $400, IIRW).

After this thread, I got out of the dust my Toscanini collection and, since today we make our Christmas tree, I selected the Nutcracker as soundtrack. WOW! Even Gergiev is souless and frozen after the Maestrissimo performance. You must listen to it so as to believe it!! Everytime I listen to his recordings, my belief that he was the GIANT of music goes stronger!

The audio quality is amazing (it is a Carnegie Hall recording - not the dreaded NBC studio - made on 19 XI 51).

PS: for your pleasure, go to google and search for pictures under "Toscanini" and see what you get:

and now on to some italian opera ... I always wondered who dared to compare Muti to Toscanini. I calibrate my ears anew today!

Don Pasquale overture; if this music in not played with such energy, dedication and pulse then it is pure rubbish, I agree.:righton:

Well, they certainly shared similar conceptions of Verdi's Requiem: martial, intense. I refer to Muti's 70's recording for EMI, not his latest for CSO Resound, btw.

This coulda been limited run on CD and a ton made on vinyl?
Also if it's limted run on CD and remastered.....price can be nUtZ!!

Also ANY JVC 24bit XRCD is costly......for one they are few and they are Japan Imports.
As we all know Japan imports are hard to get and limited.
Japan imports in any genera of music are expensive and crazy collectible always been that way.
Don't matter if it's Pink Floyd DSOTM or Beethoven 5th by Toscanini.

I've been working on my turntable, carefully sitting the TT on a travertine base, playing with some big scraps from a bathroom makeover. The net result is a lower noise floor and improved tracking. In any case, pulled out this original LP copy of Angel's recording of Maria Callas' famous recital with Tullio Serafin directing the Philharmonia. Even though this is a well-played original copy from the mid-fifties her sound was bigger and more dynamic coming off this old LP than in any of the CD transfers of her art that I've heard so far. I was flabbergasted by how good this old record sounds.

My issue came with an outer sleeve that slips over the canvas-styled record jacket:

Oh yes Stuart but I kinda like Hogwood and AAM (IIRC AAM uses period Instruments which I think is super)

IMHO period instruments really adds to the music.

I still hafta work on getting the Handel Works.....it's on my IMMEDIATE round to it list! :righton:

Hogwood and the AAM have made some of the best recordings on Handel choral works over the year. For Handel instrumental works, I will give Pinnock and the English Consort an edge ... :righton:

I think that release date is suspect.
