    Haydn Op. 76

Tatrai Quartet is my current go-to. The 1960's Hungarian stereo sound holds up very well, too.

I have seven of the their Haydn SQ's on the shelf, but am missing the 76. I enjoy the ones I have a lot.

I have only read positive things about their Haydn efforts.

I've got them. Idiomatic and well recorded. Not just a good bargain choice, a good choice, period. That said, I'd love to hear what the Takács Quartet can do with this music.

I have a near complete set of the Tatrai Haydn SQs and I very much enjoy it.

A nice label there, George. Wished I had a few more on the shelf.

Hello, I need help from you classical guys:)

I have "O fortuna" on a cassette tape (that I'm unable to locate at the moment) and would like to buy a CD with the complete Carmina Burana by Orff. The nearest store has a recording of this composition performed by The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conductor James Levine a (DG disc if I'm not mistaken)..should I look somewhere else? What's your opinion about the CSO/Levine recording/performance?

    Many thanks in advance:wave:

Yeah, Kodaly Quartet is very dependable (and highly-reviewed) for any Haydn quartet. They certainly are a good choice. I have Ops. 50 and 76 by them. For Ops. 20 and 33 I have the Quatuor Mosaiques and I like their performances as well. Have Op. 77 by Quatuor on the way.

Hard to beat the highly-reviewed Kodaly, but QM and Takács Quartet are also high on the list.

The disc is not bad at all. However, if you want to find the beter Carmina CDs, why don't you check out the Runnicles disc on Telarc sonic-wise and the Previn (EMI), Jochum (DG) or Muti (EMI) disc for the best interpretation?

Hello; many thanks for your reply; sure I am looking for the best compromise between sonics and interpretation..I saw the Riccardo Muti disc for pennies here for sale in some other stores, it must be on a budget EMI classic line, if i am not mistaken. The Levine disc: I read an enthusiastic review years ago of that disc on a magazine; it seemed a funny coincidence to me that it could be the only version readily available (for example, there were discs of the Beethoven works by different orchestras and conductors in the same store) for me to buy

Then the Robert Shaw disc on Telarc is the great candidate as well.
