No, don't do it! The original CDs should sound fine. Heck, even my Originals masterings of (most) of that material sound fine.

I could never justify spending that sort of money on a single release (it would have to be something very near and dear to my heart for me to pry my wallet that far open :D ). It appears I can get a used one in decent shape for about NZD$30. Alternatively I can even get flac files direct from DG for about NZD$20.

    Good for you! :righton:

I am downloading the one CD from that series that I didn't realize was even there. I had thought that they got it all onto the two Originals CDs.

Yes, just researching this morning I realized that the two Originals discs were missing a number of the Webern pieces (which you have now downloaded).

I had it cranking yesterday. I have the old 1957 4-LP box conducted by Robert Craft on Columbia Masterworks, also some of the pieces on a old Westminster LP conducted by Pierre Boulez. The Craft LP has the Cantatas sung by a male baritone, the Boulez (the better performance) has a female soprano. I now have to check out the Van Karajan performances.

I have a CD of Boulez playing Webern too. I have not compared it to the HvK.

Onto the Sibelius from this now. Great, dramatic reading.

I liked all of her discs on Sony. I kind of lost interest after her first DG release, which was Bach.

Levine's conducting of the two Berg operas is among his greatest achievements.

Yeah, I saw it when I was searching for an image. I must have 25 box sets in my wishlist, 5 or so I added in the last few days. :sigh:

That's one of the few that I haven't heard yet. In fact I haven't even heard of it.

I like it. A very go for broke sound to it. She plays the easier cadenzas though. Still excellent though.
