Since there's no new silly cartoons tonight (thank you baseball!! :( ), I am forced to listen to the much more refined and civilized Chopin via Moiseiwitsch. Gorgeous.

George, Moiseiwitsch vs. Cortot. Who came out on top IYO?

Tough call, probably Cortot. I wouldn't want to have to choose though.

Speaking of Moiseiwitsch, for that Great Pianists set, does anyone have the complete recording date info? The liner notes are incomplete with regards to recording dates for these performances:

    Kabalevsky - Piano Sonata 3
    Liszt - La Leggierezza
    Chopin - Barcarolle
    Chopin - Nocturne in E Op. 62 No. 2
    Chopin - Ballades 3 and 4
    Chopin - Fantasie Impromptu

To those of you who have experience with PrestoClassical:

When Presto lists "Usually despatched in 8 - 10 working days" for an item, am I to take this literally, or it like on other sites, meaning that it probably isn't in stock?

At one time, they were owned by Essex/Pair in the 80s,
    I guess they're independent now.

Just listening to the PC this morning. The orchestra really shines. Martha rules and is amazing... she owns the piece!!

Speaking of Cortot, for his Chopin the best way to go is with the 6-Cd EMI box (1992), or the Naxos releases or ....?

    Thanks!

I'd say start with some of the Naxos CDs, as the transfers are better (by Mark Obert-Thorn) for the performances common to both (1933 Op. 10 Etudes, 1934 Op. 25 Etudes, 1934 Waltzes and 1933 Barcarolle) and many of the performances are earlier (1929 Ballades, 1926 Preludes, 1928 Sonata 2, 1923 Grande Polonaise) and earlier is usually better with Cortot.

Jordi did a concert at the Morgan Library last week. About a block and a half from me, and I didn't find out about it until after.

Like the Grieg, that concerto has been recorded hundreds of times. I don't doubt she's great in it, but I am skeptical of her owning it.

Vox is a nice budget label. Lots of little surpises to be found in their catalog.
