I just listened to Haydn Creation by Harnoncourt for the first time yesterday. It was an outstanding twofer ...

Yeah my Haydn twofer Creation by Dorati I have had since it came out in 1989.
Always been happy with it so never looked any further.

I have a few other versions of Haydn Creation but this is so far the only version that was performed on period instruments ...

Nah, they are cool with us anal retentive types. In fact, their CDs are almost always pristine.

The "Last Words" is my least favorite work of Haydn for string quartet (although I have nothing close to a complete set). Try Op. 71, 74 or 76.

Op. 76 is the only one I don't own. Must remedy that.

Two cds, one awful, the other great......

The singing is this one is terrible, the intonation is constantly off and painful to listen to.
It's a shame really, Peter Fried was great in Bartok's Bluebeard but in this he disgraces himself.

    Now the good one

The daughter of Jordi Savall, Arianna, sing wonderfully French Renaissance chansons. The accompaniment is very scarce, harp, recorders, lute. In addition to the songs you get also their instrumental versions.
Very calm and well performed music.

    Anyone have this recording?

I bought this SACD over a year ago. The SQ is excellent as was the performance IMO.

I hear you. I also love the former but hate the latter, which unfortunately has visited my family 3 times in less than a year ... :sigh:
