I like the Takacs, too (in Schubert, Beethoven, and Brahms).

I gotta say their approach doesn't work for me with Haydn. I like their Bartok, though.

This set is sounding much better to me:

Haydn's like, if I have absolutely everything else I need in the world (new shoes, new flatware, new glasses), then, maybe I'll spend some dinero on Haydn. But right now, I need new shoes, new flatware, and new glasses, so Haydn, mmm, naaaah. But thanks for the recommendation.

Now playing CD2 from the following set for a first listen. The first track "Swedish Rhapsody No. 1" so far is quite nice. Symphony No. 2 makes up the rest of the CD.

    Now playing:
    • Beethoven: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 5 'Emperor', Op. 73* + Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 61^ - Jos van Immerseel* (fortepiano); Vera Beths^ (violin); Bruno Weil / Tafelmusik (on period instruments) [Sony Classical 1998, OOP (except Japan), Producer: Wolf Erichson, Recording engineer, editing, and mastering: Stephen Schellmann (Tritonus); Recording location: Kursaal, Bad Tölz, Germany, September 8-10, 1997, fortepiano is authentic Johann Nepomuk Tröndlin, Leipzig, early 19th century (Viennese action), restored in 1996, violin is Stradivarius Cremona, 1727 -- very capable but not very flexible playing, too austere in approach to HIPP, slow movements lacking in mystery and transcendence, ridiculous cadenzas by Anner Bylsma in the violin concerto -- for Immerseel and HIPP fans only]

I am off this week and so far it has rained everyday since Sunday. The sun finally made its first appearance around noon time for the first time in days.

Good luck and I hope your basement stays dry. The $8K I spent six or seven years ago on the dry basement treatment has paid off. When you get rain like this, as long as you have power, the sump pump will do its work.
