According to my Rand McNally Tripmaker, you are 159 miles from my town. How do you like it so far?

Pretty good. Many great fishing spots. I am a long way from Philly though. I hope to catch the Boston Sym. Orch. some time soon.

Thanks for that. What a great selection - these are all among my favourite Haydn piano pieces, especially the first two and last (for which I have a particular fondness because its first movement was the very last piece I played as part of my music degree almost ten years ago).

Just found it on amazon.co.uk - available at a good price at £6.99.

This James Levine/Chicago Symphony Orchestra disc of Mozart's Nos. 40 & 41 Symphonies is well done, but not my absolute favorite. -Although the First Movement of his Symphony No. 40 is quite memorable. Recorded in 1981 and issued on this disc in 1993.

I have heard the First Movement of the 40th recently remastered, so I know the sound of the 1993 disc is not the best possible.

the matrix code E0 indicates 1950.i have Vol. 32 of the Toscanini Collection
(CD,1990) which has a Feste Romane recorded 12/12/49 in Carnegie Hall-probably the same performance.

makes me think of my one & only trip to Europe,in 1986.i spent a day in East Berlin with a German friend.we had to change a set amount of Marks (say $50
worth) into East German currency, all of which had to be spent that day.transport, food & drink were cheap in the Workers' Paradise,so we had quite a bit left to spend late in the day.we bought East German classical LPs
as gifts for our hosts in West Berlin-wish i could remember what they were.

To fellow CMC regulars who listen to other types of music; how much would you say classical music forms as part of your listening? Do you have particular times when you enjoy listening to classical music, or is it just purely dependent on current mood?

At the moment with me discovering a lot of new popular music of late, classical music only forms about 10-20% of my listening (something I'd like to improve on soon) - late evenings/nights is a good time, because it's a good way of unwinding at the end of a long day, and unlike with rock, it can still be enjoyed turned down, which of course is necessary in being considerate to neighbours/house mates.

Classical music is now the 90%...But I am rediscovering some rock again...because of some great releases by older hags like Steve Hackett and Richard Thompson..

Classical occupies approximately 50% of my listening time at the moment... the rest is taken up by jazz and old pop/rock. My kids make fun of me.

That's about right for me. 50% classical and 25% jazz.

The rest in decreasing order is rock/pop, standards/Broadway, Americana/bluegrass, blues.

It's getting on for something about 60% of my listening with the remind being more folk or 'rock'. I do sometime mix genres in a single session finding links between them.

No particular times, but it must be over 50% at the moment.

    I blame George:realmad:

Currently about 50/50... split between classical and 1970's prog ;)

I have a massive jazz collection but just have not been drawn to it as much over the last couple years.
