Nice! I have been listening to the performances in the box that I haven't heard before. I have 6 CDs left, including this one:

Brahms Double Concerto, conducted by Cortot, violin Thibaud, cello Casals, 1929

I hear that's a really nice set......I was gonna get it.
But I think many of the songs are on the CD's I already have.

Yes, I got the CD used and in mint condition for $2.25. The shipping cost more than the CD itself. LOL.

The traditional Philips SQ is all there. It is not clear if the later editions really sound any better ...

Yeah I try to be careful that don't happen.
Like buying a rock CD's.....albums have 2-3 good songs rest suck...you buy 3-4 of em.
Then they come out with a greatest hits CD later on where all the songs are great.

Does anyone else subscribe to BBC Music Magazine? It's cool getting a CD with it every month, and I've listened to stuff I wouldn't have normally gone out of my way to listen too.
I haven't read the older threads so I don't know if this has been discussed.

Welcome! Yes, I'm a charter subscriber. Some of the "Beethoven favorites by the BBC Symphony Orchestra of Northern Southeast Wales at Lllnarbrn" discs aren't that interesting, but then the magazine will turn around and issue something like Vaughan Williams conducting his own music. On balance, I've found it to be a worthwhile undertaking.

I used to get a copy now and then and have a few of those CD's.
Was thinking of selling the CD's.

Anyone remember this mag that was out for a short time?
I guess it was too expensive and went belly up in about 2 years.
IIRC it was like $52 a year for a sub at that time.
This was the first issue right at the time Midori made a debut.
(I still have this issue NRMT if someone would like to trade music for it?)

It is not always that easy to avoid getting duplicates since record companies repackage their recordings umpteen times ...

Heard this for the first time today and it's magnificent. My choral find of the year, and available as a 24/44.1 download from Hyperion...

I was given a year Christmas gift-subscription by my mother-in-law a number of years ago, though I did not renew. I got perhaps 10 free CD's out of the subscription. I was introduced to Paul Lewis for the first time. But to this date, his only recording I have is that BBC recording. Some people really like Paul Lewis but there are so many outstanding pianists out there, especially those old masters that I find it hard to keep adding more pianists to my pretty good-sized collection of piano works ...
