    Please, call me Steve <grin>.

Classical and Jazz are my main interests these days, so I may have something else to post at some point.

    'Tis done---but yesterday a King!
And armed with Kings to strive---
And now thou art a nameless thing:
    So abject---yet alive!
Is this the man of thousand thrones,
Who strewed our earth with hostile bones,
    And can he thus survive?
Since he, miscalled the Morning Star*,
Nor man nor fiend hath fallen so farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

This image in the quoted message above is not showing up on two different browsers. Do you think the original link disappeared or is there something else going on??

Does this set include both mono Finale of the 9th? The LP SL-156 had the finale as recorded on 4 May 49 with Gonzalez,s, Nikolaidi ca, Jobin t, Harrell b. The other three movts were recorded on 1-3 April 49. A later LP SL-186 had another finale rec on 7 March 53 with Yeend s, Lipton ca, Lloyd t, Harrell b. while the first 3 movts were the same as with the previous original release.

John Wilson had released in his Idlewild cd series both finale.

"Aion" has a bit of of medieval music. Medievalists I have recorded [who have themselves appeared on major labels] have told me that DCD are very good in this repertoire. The Mirror Pool, a a solo effort by Lisa Gerrard, has many moments that remind me of Handel's vocal music.

I recommend starting a Dead Can Dance thread. There must be plenty of their fans here who can help.

Now enjoying some late Cortot Chopin (1952), from this set. His only Scherzo recordings (nos. 2 and 3) appear here:

Yeah they have a huge following all over the world!

Sorry didn't mean to get off the Classical theme here.
I kinda see them as Neo-Classical in a way!

How do you listen to your music, via tube (valve) or solid state amp? I understand most folks who are into Jazz prefer tube amp ...

MacBook to Audiolab MDAC via USB. I use that as a pre-amp and it's connected to a pair of EAR 509 valve - tube - amps. The speakers are a pair of Quad ESL 63s.

On the MacBook music is either from my iTunes library, or is streamed as 16/44.1 FLAC from Qobuz. I also listen to BBC Radio 3 - which is available as a 320k feed.

Finally, I use Channel D's Pure Music software for playing the music.

    Hope that helps.

I am still a bit sitting on the fence as to whether I should go for a tube amp (for the first time). I have 7 or 8 solid state amps at my house and some of them are in storage. I do have tube preamp and tube CDP ...

I've been a subscriber since 1995. I agree that it's worthwhile for the magazine and the music. It has enabled me to broaden my horizons in the "classical" genre.

IIRC, the magazine, at least during the year I was subscribing to it, did not really have much in the way of early music to offer. Early music/baroque is an important subgenre of classical music to me ...

That makes sense since you already had a lot of piano music. For me it was different. My collection at the time consisted mainly of the "warhorses". The CDs that come with the magazine help my explore and appreciate lesser-known orchestral works, along with chamber and instrumental music.
