Thanks. Just to make sure, as I do not want to rush out and grab a duplicate set ...

I don't know if that's the recording I heard, but my dad has/had this CD with both concertos on. Like you, the Double Concerto made far more of an impression - I can't remember why, but even the greatest composers have their off days.

There are some people who think that for the Triple Concerto, that Karajan, Richter, Rostropovich, & Oistrakh were not having one of their best days.:agree:

Yes, that's where I listened to it from. I only used the other image because it was more descriptive.

Who do people like for the Triple Concerto? I don't think I have many other recordings of it, maybe just the Sony Essential Classics version and the Fricsay on DG.

I almost rushed out to get that single whose CD cover you posted, then I realized I better checked the Richter Icon box ...

Yeah, it pays to actually listen to the CDs you buy. ;)

You meant to go much beyond the first listen for most CD's I have bought. I certainly do not have the photographic memory to remember every CD I own after the first listen. I sometimes even have trouble locating a specific CD even though my low-tech Excel spreadsheet tells me I own the CD. I need to rethink my filing system since I do not have the contiguous shelf space your have.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin, whose conducting career is skyrocketing. DG is hitching its wagon to an apparent star in the making.

So this is a French-Canadian conductor. I have never even heard of him before I googled his name. PO just exited bankruptcy not long ago. Is that right?

Norman Lebrecht? He quotes Richter as saying "It's a dreadful recording and I disown it utterly"

No, it was one of those guides to CDs. I will have to go thru them.

I'd agree that certainly seems to be the case, from reading a couple of Lebrecht's books.

BTW, is it just me, as I have never been able to warm up to Simon Rattle as a conductor, even though he is the conductor of BPO? He is the only conductor of the BPO since Furtwangler I do not like ...

BTW, I hope I have not offended any British member of CMC ...

I heard his incredibly long Gothic Symphony a couple of years ago on the BBC Proms. I didn't make enough of an impression to buy it.

Right now I'm listening to Shostakovich's Viola Sonata on Brilliant Classics. Another great piece for viola and piano. I'm beginning to be a viola and piano fan. The last music I posted about as I was listening to it was a viola and piano piece by Liszt.

Now enjoying this OOP Marston 3CD set. He was a pupil of Franz Liszt.

I don't know if this was mentioned in a previous part of this thread. I got this mainly for the Serenades which I haven't owned for a while. I haven't listened to the symphonies or the Variations yet. This is on Australian Decca.
