    Very powerful last movement ...

I am also looking forward to getting the 8th by Boulez as I was very impressed with his performance with the VPO at a a live concert I watched on the PBS a number of years ago ... :righton:

It appears every big name conductor had to conduct the Bruckner 8th with the VPO. Karajan, Bohm, Boulez and Giulini ...
How is this recording? I do not have this one ...

Giulini chooses for his interpretation of Bruckner`s 8th rather slow tempos - which works in this case like a magnifying class - and reveals this epos in subtle details and it`s full magnitude at the same time......you should go for it....

Indeed, I have the Decca two-fer of Great Organ Works performed by Hurford and it's very satisfying. In particular, I enjoy his performance of the famous Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565. I feel that too many organists use the piece to grandstand, often exaggerating some of the phrasing. Ton Koopman particularly come to mind - his "interpretation" make my skin crawl! But Hurford manages to play the piece respectfully without sounding "dry". BTW, the only other organist I've heard play this piece fully to my satisfaction is the little known Samuel John Swartz.

I have 5 volumes of Peter Hurford's JS Bach Organ Works at 3 CD's each. They are original release. I do enjoy Peter Hurgord's interpretation but have not listened to his recordings in some times ...

I've got two CDs on this label (Alpha), and they both truly do have incredible sound quality.

I only own it because it came in one of the DG boxes. I don't think I've listened to it because I'm sick of hearing it. It's one of the works I don't need another copy of.

I can understand that. Give it a cursory listen, though…the musicality is fantastic, the ensemble playing is superb, and it is just extremely tasteful and energetic to boot.

As someone who really enjoyed Tomita as a high school kid, at the time I was quite eager to discover more of the same, and enjoyed this record as well as "The Well Tempered Synthesizer."
