Daedalus I haven't heard it all.....

Probably Russian politics-they all support Putin very publicly. Maybe he does not. Politics tends to get vitriolic, n'est ce pas?

"Maybe he does not" is the understatement of the century! I've rarely read such frothing at the mouth hatred as Gavrilov spewed toward Putin, and by supporting him, they are guilty by association. Who knows if their support is legit--it might just be a survival tactic. When I broached that possibility on Gavrilov's FB page, that's when he went after me. Oh well, we should probably steer clear of politics here!

Fun fact...a few years ago I met her and asked her what she thought about audiophile formats, among other things. She commented that Telarc had wanted to do this album as a SACD but she declined because it involved cumbersome equipment (likely the DSD console) and her target audience was never audiophiles.

    Today on Difficult Listening Hour*:

Making a needle drop for my friend. Got this when it came out, played HPSCHD a few times, the Johnston quartet quite a bit more. Forgot all about it 'til yesterday, the string quartet being a microtonal work in the romantic mode, with a few moments seeming like Late Beethoven from a different quadrant of the galaxy. HPSCHD is from a different quadrant of the galaxy, maybe a different galaxy. Various electronic blips and beeps, dense and rapid fire with bits and pieces of Baroque harpsichord bits mashed up and spat out. Good sound, but the clicks and pops on the Quartet side are gonna need some click repair.

More on HPSCHD, in living color:

That is interesting. Perhaps an all-DSD SACD might sound even better, but this RBCD certainly sounds great.

I liked this CD, especially the singing & the quality of the chorus recording. Released in 1992. Recorded 10/90, Casino Zogernitz, Vienna.

This plays without problems, despite minor scratches, and sold for 89 cents. Two-guitar arrangements by Angel. Recorded in Mission San Luis Rey, California, 3/23-25/90. Producer: Elaine Martone. Engineers: Bruce Leek & Robert Woods. Nice.

    You can say that again...

I already have quite a few of their recordings, but it still looks tempting. As usual the pre-order prices on a few European Amazon sites are a bit high, but I'm sure they'll come down.
