Just a heads up for those who might be interested and don't frequent the marketplace forum: one of our fellow members, who lives in the NY area, has a nice collection of 78 RPM classical records for sale at a bargain price. Here's a link:

Now playing this CD, which arrived from Amazon US yesterday. The performance of Lark Ascending by the late Iona Brown was fabulous IMO ...

This is a wonderful set even if I paid some $23 or $24 for it over a year ago. I picked up 3 Philips DUO's this evening - Grieg by Raymond Leppard, Dvorak by Colin Davis and Mozart by Neville Marriner.

Are you buying them from amazon or from a third party seller?

Amazon - I clicked on Jay's link. That got me to the special offer, but when I selected my titles, they showed up at the regular prices.

You selected the titles by clicking on the amazon link, right? I ask because I almost never use the amazon link, as I use the third party sellers almost exclusively.

Yes -if you go to the promotion page there are checkboxes next to each title. Here are the instructions you get:

"To make your selection, click the boxes to the left of the image. Then click the Add to cart button to place your order for the titles you selected. "

I did that. I got the regular prices.

Did you get the PCs or the Symphonies? I have both, but I really like the PCs. The Silverline disc with #23 and #27 was one of my first three classical CDs, way back in 1987.

    Go to: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=pe_59120_14217200_pe_00_head/?docId=1000476571

    1. Put the CDs in your cart
    2. Click "Proceed to Checkout"

That's when you'll see the sale price, expressed as a "Promotion Applied" in the total column. Don't forget to click "FREE Supersaver Shipping" (assuming that's what you want).

    Got it!

I ordered Lizst, Lutoslawski and Handel's Messiah (because I don't own a recording of it) :hide:

I also bought the Argerich solo recital box and Horowitz playing Scriabin.

Good. I'm getting all of the Brendels I don't already own.

Has anyone liked the Gulda WTC? More than Schiff? More than Gould?

    FWIW, I didn't much like Gulda's WTC.

Of the Philips two-fers, the ones I think that are superb are:

    1. Arrau - Chopin Nocturnes

    2. Richter/Rostropovich - Beethoven Cello Sonatas

    3. Arrau - Liszt Transcendental Etudes

I also have heard good things from a friend whose opinion I respect about the Dvorak symphony cycle that comprises two of the Philips two-fers.

The Arrau Lizst was one of my 3.

Others I have and can recommend:

    Mozart Violin Concertos -Grumiaux
Bach Partitas and Sonatas - Grumiaux
Brahms Trios and Quartets (two twofers) - Beaux Arts Trio and others
    The Davis/BSO/Sibelius cycle (two twofers)

Not until you have confirmed the purchase. It came off as a $20 discount toward the end when the items were tallied up. I was left pondering about that for a moment as well.

With the sinking Pound, great deals are available from MDT and Presto Classic once again. It has been a while since the Pound/Dollar exchange rate drops below $1.60.

The Davis/Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra series of Haydn's "London" symphonies is about as good as it gets.

I have the Grumiaux's Bach set. Grumiaux was one of the most outstanding violinists from the 20th century IMO. This is a wonder set I bought over a year ago in addition to a few of his singles and twofers ...

  25. Many thks for the heads up, the discount was applied at the end and more than paid for the postage to the UK. :edthumbs:
