So it looks like they changed to have free shipping all the time and right now they have 15% off (code is CCM) that seems to work on preorders. Of course they have also raised their prices...
I buy from their sister site Popmarket pretty regularly for the free shipping, and I just got an email from them that says Popmarket is going away, and they're steering their customers over to CCMusic.com. That must be the reason for the change.
Guess I either got lucky last Friday when I ordered the 50th anniversary Machine Head from Popmarket, or I bought the last copy they had. No longer on Popmarket ( banner on site states vinyl has been moved to CCM ) and it's on backorder at CCM stating a date of late May.
That is correct. Where I'm confused is I thought Pop Market was owned by Universal. "directtoyou" is actually a large wholesaler called Alliance. They have a sordid history of pricing their wholesale customers out of business. Originally there was Phantom, then Phantom was bought by "Super D", who was bought by Alliance who also bought a number of medium large internet retailers.
There is a current sale on Collector's Choice. Use code CCM to get 15% off storewide through April 15. I've used it now twice as Popmarket has been rebranded to selling only collectables and merchandise that is not 12" round and flat. We'll see if this merchandising change has legs. I've used Popmarket for a few years for new releases and pre-orders. With their preorders, the price I've been buying records at has usually come out very competitive in the end. I remain skeptical that this will be the case with Collector's Choice Music. In general, they have been a bit more expensive than Popmarket. It's just Sony being Sony. Anybody else would come out with one pricing structure to make sure they aren't competing against themself, but with different storefronts to appeal to different buyers. Not Sony. They will have different prices from various outlets, too.
Are you thinking Sony still owns Popmarket or that you see Sony titles with wildly varying prices on numerous online retailers...If the former...Sony hasn't owned Pop Market for 7 years now...This is from 2017! "Hey Everyone, DirectToU, the company behind Collectors' Choice Music and Vinyl, Critics' Choice Video and DeepDiscount.com, has just acquired the assets of PopMarket. We are very excited to continue the work that PopMarket has done over the years to expand the knowledge and availability of great music. Right now we are loading in the unfilled PopMarket orders with the goal of shipping these out early next week. We will be in touch soon after with any customer that has an order that we are not able to fill. Thank you for your continued patience. We can not wait to show you all the new stuff we have to offer and look forward to earning your continued support."
