I like these old shows. They really help me relax in the evening. Simpler times to me. Is Janice Rule in any of those Cannon credits?

“Barnaby Jones” can be fun, particularly the early episodes. There was one on MeTV the other night with Bill Bixby as the killer and it was so tightly written and enjoyable that it could have been a Columbo episode. Buddy Ebsen was a very likable presence.

  4. All I can say is that Kojak made being bald cool like Yul Brynner.

  5. I used to watch this with my dad as he drank a highball to relax. I had a theory that Bill Shatner’s contract for a given episode a.lowed him to keep whatever hair piece they came up for him.

Barnaby Jones is unique. He never actually does anything.
He makes Ironsides look like an action hero.
    I still like it.

Watching James Garner run in the rockford files is painful.
That guys knees were worse than Joe Namath's .

Wasn't a hit, but still a great Nilsson track:

He's got it all, hasn't he - jawline, cheekbones, the forehead, the nose... the pipe. James Garner looks pretty good, too!

My brother and I used to watch Barnaby Jones for laughs, especially finding humor he shot his gun. He always shot from the hip, never actually holding the gun out and taking aim. Yet he always seemed to hit the target.

Was James Garner at all related to Charlton Heston? Something in that picture makes me ask the question.

I watched them all. Columbo & Rockford were always good. Kojak was good but it got old after a while. " Who loves you baby". With the sucker.

and don't forget that awesome Rockford theme song....

Aired on NBC for 6 seasons, Sept 1974 to Jan 1980. Theme by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter. This version includes all of the guitar solos by Dan Ferguson.

On a side not. I could never tell if James Garner wore a hair piece.

Been watching a bit of the Rockford Files on free to air TV reruns here in Aus. Great to revisit this as I didn't get to see a lot of episodes back in the day. Todays episode was about a conspiracy by a big security company to murder all the local PI's. Hoping they'll dig out Kojak for some reruns sometime soon as well.

You should read what he says in his autobiography about Heston...

Didn't have a lot of time for him. If I remember correctly, presumably political differences but he also thought he was as stiff as a board as far as acting went.

Interesting - that makes me like Garner even more.

I also heard Garner was neighbours with Steve McQueen - some disputes over a bit of garden, apparently.

Last night, MeTV aired “Ransom for a Dead Man”, the second Columbo TV movie (and the one that served as a pilot for the series; the first TV movie was supposed to be a one-off). Lee Grant played the killer. Very good, particularly Grant. She was a worthy adversary for Columbo.

I just watched an episode from the first season where Rockford and his dad Rocky were running away from the antagonists. Rocky (Noah Beery) was running better at age 60.
