Westerns were big for awhile then went away. Musicals were big for awhile then went away. Vietnam movies were big for awhile then went away. WWII movies were big for awhile then went away. "Epics" were big for awhile then went away.

Most of those were big for the 15 or so years that MCU stuff has been huge. It remains to be seen if the bottom falls out. Theater business in Asia by itself should keep in steady for at least the next several years guaranteed.

Elvis made movies in 2 weeks and doing 5+ movies in a year wasn't unusual if you were more than a support actor.

Stan Lee filmed a bunch of cameos for future use. Definitely 2 are slated for 2019 theatrical releases.

I haven't seen Man Of Steel, however this is a similar situation in the comics. Superman is brought to a Pocket Universe where three Phantom Zone criminals (including General Zod) have been released. In a short time they have basically wiped out all life on Earth [in the Pocket Universe there were only two planets, Earth and Krypton [which exploded]).

Since each of the Phantom Zone criminals are much more powerful than Superman and would kill all life in the DC Universe if they got there (and the kryptonite from the regular DC Universe wouldn't affect them), Superman was forced to kill them with kryptonite to prevent that (it didn't affect him since it was from Pocket Universe, but it was fatal to them). In the end, there was only one survivor of that universe that Superman brought to the regular DC Universe, a being who became Supergirl.
