All live albums? No. But it’s not the least bit uncommon.

If you have two guitarists, then it makes a bit more sense, but when you have just one, it's simple weird, because there's no instrument on the other side to balance it. Yes, on these recordings, there are the keyboards, but they aren't that present, and when Keith solos, it makes the overall sound unbalanced.

As I said, it's not at all uncommon.

    "Video unavailable."

In any case, the plural of "anecdote" is not "data."

Derek and the Dominos. Live. Or:

Regardless, there are countless live albums with guitar mixed in one channel. Whether you like it or not, it's not a "mistake".

Right there. At 2:20 in, Terry starts to solo and the sound of the bass is awesome. Shows exactly what a great bass player Pete Cetera was.
It doesn't sound anything like that on this new release. If I was Pete I would be pissed.

The high res thread said it's DR8. I was thinking about the dl but given that low number 96/24 will probably be ok.

Bass and drums are in the center (well drums are all over the place, they had multiple microphones on the drums so they could do that, but are grounded in the center anyway), and the way I see it, that's rule n.2 in mixing...
Any mix with bass and/or drums moved to the side is at risk of is sounding off, or weird.

Lead vocals are obviously in the center, that's rule n.1.

Yes I guess they might have placed Kath's guitar in the center, but it might have felt a bit crowded. I'm not bothered in the least by the soundstage presentation here, but I understand that's a matter of taste

He did, but if you look at the stage, he was around 11 o'clock. On some of the recent multi-track releases, he's more like 9 o'clock in the mix. And they never put Phil on the right, which is where he stood.

This is all okay if you're fairly far from speakers, but if not, and especially if you listen on headphones, it just sounds weird. And on the Chicago recordings, it seems to minimize Kath's contributions, especially in the long solos.

I really can't say I feel the same. He's featured the most, as a soloist, he's loud and clear, he steals the show on most of the tracks, his guitar is overwhelming and omnipresent. Perhaps a case could be made he's minimizing the other members' contributions, as they were no slouch themselves.
Of course he was a genius so I'm thankful for every note he played here...

I listened to the remix. Way better effort than CTA for sure. But still... it could have been done SOO much better...

Question for any experts: Is there anything on the original album, or on the first expanded Rhino reissue-- vocal overdubs, edits, whatever-- that does not appear on the new set?
