Went to a Lorde concert just to see Mitski and Run The Jewels. Left before Lorde came on.

Years ago, went to see Everclear just to see Menthol and Hagfish. I, erm, didn’t enjoy the headliner.

Those are the first ones that came to mind, but I’m positive I’ve done this time and time again - especially to see local openers!

Eric Burden supporting Steppenwolf at the House Of Blues, LA in 1998.
They , Steppenwolf were not worthy. Just a personal opinion.

Mid 70's Quicksilver, followed by Spirit, and headlined by Nektar (Remember the Future, indeed). I was there for Spirit and
they blew the other two acts out of the water. Ed Cassidy played the best drum solo I ever saw (including Moon and Bonham)
and I'm not really big on drum solos. He started on his drums continuing to tap the stage with his sticks up Randy's mic stand
back down and back to his drums. Spirit was a one of a kind band.

This sentence sounds like a Family Guy flashback to the early 90s.

Saw Fleetwood Mac at Wembley in 1990 - but I went to see Jethro Tull who were supporting them (first time I saw Tull)

In '94 I went to Hylands Park, Chelmsford to see Magnum who were opening for Status Quo.

In both cases the main act were also worth seeing though.

I went to Simple Minds in 2009, just to see Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, who were opening.
I left after OMD. I'd no interest in Simple Minds.

    Porcupine Tree supporting Dream Theater.
Actually I went more for Dream Theater but came back home as huuuuge Porcupine Tree fan and my love for Dream Theater sort of faded away.

Chic opening for Lionel Richie, Melbourne last year. stayed fir the headliner but it was a struggle to sit through. Chic were great but too much of their short set was devoted to the songs Nile produced for other acts. Saw their 2014 headline show which was incredible.

Ian Hunter toured with Heart when I was in high school. Still kicking myself for missing that one.

I think I did know that Little Steven was opening for U2. I liked Little Steven but maybe that is how much I did not like U2. It was also the end of my early concert going days ('87ish) (I went to some concerts through the 90s but it was 20 years before I really got into it again). Anyway - I saw U2 a year ago. Little Steven is coming to town this fall.

In the early 1980s, Nick Lowe and Paul Carrack opened for some 70s rock act. We left after Nick and Paul played.

In 2003 I went to see Buddy Guy with Los Lobos opening at the Beacon. Really wanted to see Los Lobos - and was interested in what Buddy Guy was into. Well, Los Lobos blew the doors down with a powerful and rocking set - and Buddy stood around and BS'd all night, hardly ever finishing a song. Great opener - lousy main act. Not the last time I say Los Lobos - the last time I saw Buddy. Here's the New York Times review for those interested.

The Pretty Things opening for The Kinks. I love the Kinks and they're a top-10 favorite, but the Pretties toured just a handful of times over here and they're #2 on my list after The Who.
Procol Harum opening for Jethro Tull. I like Tull but Procol is another top-10 favorite. Of course I stayed for all of Tull's set, too. In fact I've seen them 8 or 9 times starting in the early 70s.
Caravan opening for Nektar. Nektar was boring, I left after 5 or 6 songs.
Eric Johnson opening for someone I didn't know and quickly didn't like.

Del Lords opening for Pat Benatar at the spectrum.

We walked to the far back of the place and found the people in the highest nose bleed seats and handed them our tix on the floor
