The 2013 remaster /expanded edition sounds very nice. Essential

Really looking forward to getting Benny Carter's "Jazz Giant". Some more Barney Kessel which is very cool, along with Ben Webster and Shelly Manne. This is a very good record and can put you in a swinging good mood as it plays. Only have a CD of it and will be curious how wide they do the soundstage with this since they went with stereo. I have never heard the mono version but I bet it sounds pretty sweet. Wasn't this released as a 45, 2-LP set a while back?

The recording is what it is, as you already know. And originals are not that hard to find. But the remaster (2013) is an improvement, a bit crispier and cleaner, taking advantage of modern digital technology.

Shame they didn’t keep the original cover art, though

Yes. And, predictably, it sounds incredible. :)

Sorry, I was referring to the 45 RPM stereo release from Analogue Productions.

Barney Kessel is to this series as Grant Green is to Tone Poet series.

I just sampled it, it sounds very nice indeed, however, Previn's bumpy piano is kind of a dealbreaker for me. Such a shame, because otherwise, the line up is insane.

  11. My vinyl copy sounds excellent to me as do all Roy DuNann engineered Items

Man I wish they dared to reissue something little more out of the jazz box and bring out this one:

    Woody Shaw - Blackstone Legacy

A cult record screaming for a great vinyl reissue.

Was not in the cult, so did not know anything of this, but your statement made me go listen, really enjoying it so far (streaming on Spotify).
I see too that it commands big money for a vinyl pressing, like $250+!.
    Great stuff, thanks!

With names like Gary Bartz, Bennie Maupin etc. you can’t go wrong :) recommended for anybody who thinks Bitches Brew is a little dull here and there :p

another Contemporary artist that probably makes zero chance of a reissue:
    Huey Simmons - Burning Spirits

    Sonny Simmons - Rumasuma

    a pity…

Price for this one seems to have really jumped up lately! I picked up an original last year for a great price, love it and I agree it’s crying out for a reissue!

According to Acoustic Sounds Shelly Manne has been pushed to Sept 15, 2023. Meets the Rhythm Section is February 23.
I wonder whats coming in between those 7 months, if anything…

  20. As long as the sound quality is ok no complaints from my side. However have 3 on vinyl and bought this one for the missing copy.

After a lot of deliberation I finally got my hands on “Hampton Hawes: Four!”

More than blown away by this one, it’s absolutely incredible. My favourite so far is “Bow Jest” but the whole album flows so well and the pressing is spectacular. I really love this series and can’t wait for Jazz Giant next and probably will double dip and get the stereo version of AP meets the Rhythm Section.
