Yes, I was trying to think of a Beatles song when I started the thread and for some reason it just wouldn't come to me - but this is the one.

"Indiana Wants Me" by R. Dean Taylor - that megaphone voice at the end - "This is the police - come out with your hands up!" - followed by a volley of gunfire. Amazing stuff.

These ridiculously and embarrassing corny songs come to mind immediately and would likely get one beaten up if heard playing them in public: Puff The Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul, & Mary, Honey by Bobby Goldsboro, and Michael by The Highwaymen.

Always loved "Indiana Wants Me" but it is pretty corny in my view.

I know that this is kind of a subjective question, but I don't think of many of these songs as being the least bit corny. "Expecting To Fly" may be a bit sentimental, but it is sublime.

Manages to make me nostalgic for that folksy America that I, as an English man, have pretty much no real connection with.

Couldn’t find a video and never made it to CD. I burnt a CD of my cassette and ripped that onto my hard drive.

Another song that chokes me up is an early recorded version of Gone by Clyde McPhatter and The Drifters. Recorded in '53, it remained unreleased for several decades while the official one was issued in '55. I'll bet Clyde's vocals complete with a sad sniffle were just too much for the other band member. It is truly embarrassing!

I tell ya Mark, they have a pretty good catalog. Picked up the 1994 25 Years a couple years ago. Some nice stuff! :)

  22. I think the corny/sentimental part of your title puts an odd twist on the songs that might fit because the two are not directly relatable.
A few songs that "get me every time" but they may be either corny, or sentimental, but not necessarilly both.

    Honey: Bobby Goldboro.
Last Kiss: J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers.
    Wildfire: Michael Martin Murphy.
TAPS: Played with feeling, but in a traditional manner.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
And finally, the song that ruins me every time, even when I just think about it,
Baby Mine: From the movie Dumbo

Yet another corny sentimental record that I wouldn't dare listen to with others is The Irish Rovers Unicorn. Try wrapping your brain around this; It was a BillBoard TOP-10 single reaching #7 the week ending May 25, 1968!
