Charles Bradley also does a KILLER soul ballad version of Sabbath's "Changes":

 

David Bowie's "Let's Spend The Night Together." Not particularly "creative/inventive," but it is a radical makeover. And some did find it outrageous.

Although Junior Parker was primarily known as a blues artist, I wouldn't call this Beatles cover blues. It totally blew me away when I first heard it, one of my all time favorite Beatles covers:

Sit Down I Think I Love You is awfully good too, much better than the rather dull Buffalo Springfield original.

So many people have no idea this is a cover song, it's so well done.

 

This was a nice little ballad whether it was done by The Everlys or Glen Campbell and Bobby Gentry. Then The 5D came along and took it to church:
