Here's a coffee table book that can be had cheap. It's by no means comprehensive but is fun to flip through.

I had a subscription to Rolling Stone 1969-71 and looked forward to every issue. In fact, I still have them all these years later, including their issue devoted to the Woodstock festival. I have a few from 1967 as well. Rolling Stone actually meant something back then.

Has anyone mentioned Greg Shaw's, Who Put The Bomp! magazine? I would add it to the big four. Though it was hard to find on the east coast, I bought it whenever I could find a copy.

Too bad Crawdaddy didn't last longer, I loved that magazine! I vaguely remember this cartoon in Crawdaddy about Keith titled 'Keef Riffhard'... To my 14 year old mind, it seemed like it was the funniest thing ever. I wish I could remember more about it than just the title.

Trouser Press was probably my favorite though. All the old Trouser Press record reviews are online for the most though at.

  6. So you're the guy who wrote "Funny Records With No Writing On Them", eh? Wow, well done! I re-read that article recently while going through one of my regular perusals of my old rock mags, and remember it as my first in-depth introduction to the bootleg scene and its mechanizations.

Could not find the Keef cartoon but did find this in both versions of Crawdaddy. The mag and newspaper style:

Crawdaddy had some great writers. William Burroughs had a regular column at one time and I found a review by Jim Carroll. Here's part of a revciew for some power pop albums with a pic of Forum faves:
