They just kicked off one of their periodic 24 hour 50% off sales for DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4k UHD titles at www.criterion.com
I grabbed these four: Written on the Wind (1956) (Blu-ray) A Hard Day’s Night (1964) (4K) Love Affair (1939) (Blu-ray) The Red Shoes (1948) (4K) They paired nicely with the $10 Criterion.com gift code I received with my replacement Citizen Kane Blu-ray disc.
I'd been waiting for one of these. Got the Hard Day's Night and Citizen Kane 4ks as well as Picnic at Hanging Rock (an underrated folk-horror-adjacent moody classic, imho. Just don't expect many action scenes...)
Thanks for the heads up. I grabbed my first two 4K Criterions since I missed last time: Red Shoes and Kane (Kane is packed to the gills with bonus material, quite the bargain).
The Criterion Collection I went a bit bonkers this time: Inland Empire Blu-ray Last Hurrah for Chivalry Blu-ray Romeo and Juliet Blu-ray Imitation of Life (1934) Blu-ray The Adventures of Baron Munchausen 4K UHD+Blu-ray Combo Hollywood Shuffle Blu-ray Cooley High Blu-ray The Velvet Underground Blu-ray
They sent me a $10 coupon on Friday (10/13/23) for being a Criterion Channel subscriber. This was part of the email: “Your code won’t expire, so shop today or save it for an upcoming flash sale!”
I ordered Tod Browning's Sideshow Stoppers Blu-Ray set. The $10 coupon (for being a Channel subscriber) pretty much takes care of shipping and tax.
My haul this time included: La Bamba (Blu) Moonage Daydream (UHD) Akira Kurosawa's Dreams (UHD) Three Films by Luis Buñuel (Blu) I then received a notice that over the last few years I had earned a $50 gift card from their loyalty program and placed a second order for: The Complete Monterey Pop Festival (Blu) A Room with a View (Blu)
I'd be way more inclined to buy if they had free shipping. $7 on top of a single disc comes out to $27, which to me isn't much of a deal.
Shipping is free if you spend at least $75.00. (It used to be $50.00, but they increased it around the time everything in the world went up in price.)
My haul this time included: Moonage Daydream (UHD) Wall*E (UHD) The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (UHD) Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Blu)
I picked up (all 4K): Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio Mean Streets Trainspotting The Heroic Trio / Executioners
