From the Rolling Stone article referenced earlier, can anyone confirm that the version of Long May You Run on Decade (LP) is different from the CD version. Per the article, the original LP had CSNY on it, but the CD only has Stills/Young on it. Is that true?
True, but unlike Dylan and Macca, his voice is in amazing shape, and he seems to be about as creative as ever.
Absolutely agree, but again why does he have to prove it on the road, other than it probably is the most stable income source. I’m going on 64 and I hurt 17 different places just getting out of bed in the morning, I can’t imagine being a touring musician at my age and I don’t want to imagine doing it at 81.
There’s two different mixes: 1. Stills-Young mix: Long May You Run 1976 lp, old Warner cd, 2016 remaster in the ORS box 2. CSNY mix…1977 Decade 3 LP set, old Warner cd, 2017 remaster cd and 3 LP set
Actually I'd prefer a Buffalo Springfield and Moby Grape reunion tour with surviving members. And the jam to end all jams at the end...
100% true. the 'decade' version has the crosby*nash vocals.......the stills-young band version does not. other than that though, i don't think there ae any differences.
Just wondering if record labels and band members know there is a finite opportunity and market for these releases. Maybe my lack of patience speaking.
Yes, they did. I saw a show at Red Rocks on that tour. Stills did “Treetop Flyer” and it was the best version of that song I’ve ever heard.
I bought Decade in the seventies and have had it on the re-issued CD for a few years now. That non album version of Long May You Run is a bit odd. Way back I used to think it was only Stills multi-tracked on harmony, but C&N sound crowded out, if they're on it too as we're told they are. It certainly doesn't sound like CSN vocally as we know from either the Couch album or Deja Vu (well to my ears anyhow). Nor does it sound like them as on Through my sails, recorded a bit closer in time to this track. I definitely prefer the original with just Stills and Young. Same goes for Midnight on the Bay.
They could reform and just record all their fighting. So even if there's no music, they'd at least get a comedy album
I think the SYB version as a little harmonica blast before the band kicks in? And more prominent Stills harmony/co-singing on the verses?
Stills also has a song called "Look each other in the eye" from 2016 on YouTube Interstate should be released on the expanded Ragged Glory as its from those sessions. Spring is Nearly Here is from a Shadows tribute album Twang, Neil did guest on Randy's Prarie Town.
Living with War isn't a great album, but that tour was special. I have a recording of the Fresno show somewhere. I hadn't seen them before, so I had low expectations, but I was impressed, especially by the shape of Croz's voice and Neil's energy.
