the only thing that would have made it even more perfect for CSNY would have been if neil young had quit right in the middle of the project...........................................
I enjoyed listening to the bonus material, but to me it demonstrated that they ended up making pretty much all the right decisions about which songs to finish for the actual album and how to arrange them.
I'm too lazy to read this whole thread. Is the CD, which is included in this set, the same mastering as the "remaster" that was released some years ago or bespoke to this set?
I would have used the alternate version of Woodstock presented here. Stills vocals are just perfect on that one to me.
I could have seen the original mono single mixes of those two tracks included here (even if they are just fold downs of the later-released stereo mixes), because that would have been what people heard in 1970. The stereo mix of “Find The Cost of Freedom” didn’t appear until 1974 on So Far.
Despite the nit picking I found the CDs in this set very good and sound quality was great. Pity you are forced to buy an LP with CDs together however. LP does sound good but it sounds very much inferior to the Classic Records version cut by Bernie Grundman. Wonder why the differences since both cut at Grundman mastering?
I bought the single outtakes/alternates LP, sounds great, and the cover is superb. But does anyone know why there is no alternate version of Country Girl on it? It makes this album feel incomplete. And I wish they'd slotted in some other demo in its place if there's nothing from Country Girl available?
i suggest reading through this thread, i know i know it is ridiculously long. i think you will see how neil young took a whole lot of the air out of this project before it even got off the ground, and no one seems to know why he did it.
Returning to this thread but not rereading 200 pages, I recall Neil removed a CSNY version of Everybody's Alone from the set, there is an instrumental version of Cinnamon Girl on a boot but I don't recall an alt Country Girl. There are nice versions of Country Girl on the Oct 69 concerts on NYA.
There's a stand alone 2021 CD remaster. Is is same or different from the CSNY Deja Vu 50th anniversary reissue
Its a complex song, combining several songs into one. Hard to believe given all the material we have been given, these songs were all done in one take.
If anything it seems more likely to me that there *weren't* outtakes. At least anything more than basic tracks.
