Noted comic writer/producer/actor Larry David appeared at a TV Academy event tonight at the Directors Guild theater here in Hollywoo, and made the annnouncement that yes... there would be a 12th season of his acclaimed HBO improv/docu-style comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm.

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’: Larry David Confirms HBO Comedy Will Be Back – Deadline

The actor (who will be 75 later on in 2022) also added there will be "more," implying that there could be additional shows beyond that. No premiere date has been set, so my guess is they'll start shooting in late summer, and the show will return in January 2023.

I generally love the show, but I have to confess this last season had some weak moments -- partly due to the absence of longtime pal Bob Einstein (who died several years ago) and Richard Lewis (who was in ill health but did make an appearance or two). I hope they can get it back together and keep going.

Great news. I thought last season was fine. A couple of early episodes may have been subpar but the season finale was really clever and unexpected. And it will be nice to see the real Jeff Garlin back on television.

Fantastic news...but I'm in the minority, I've had enough of Jeff, Suzie and Leon.

I have to say, on that set, nobody will care if Jeff Garlin is obnoxious and cracks dirty jokes.

I love Leon, and would watch him any day of the week. I love the fact that he always calls the star "Larry David."

No matter what kind of person Jeff Garlin might be, it's nice to see some loyalty.

As an aside, I'm going to try that Fiji water you recommend.

I have been thoroughly spoiled by Fuji water and pretty much can't drink anything else. I did a blind paper-cup taste test a few years ago with a friend of mine who couldn't believe I could tell the difference between Dasani, tap water, and Fuji water, and I picked the Fiji every time! I basically said, "those two are like bat p!ss, but this one is fine."

I think Jeff Garlin is really funny, but apparently he was warned 6 or 7 times by HR not to call women "the C word" and other rude names, and he kept doing it... and laughing very loudly. Ehhhh... not great behavior in 2022.

Hey, another shot from the panel discussion yesterday at the DGA:

Glad to see that Jeff Garlin (currently shrouded in controversy after being fired from The Goldbergs) has still got a job on Curb.

I'd like to see more Albert Brooks in future shows.

I think it might be cool to bring back a couple old characters from long ago seasons including Becky, Porno Gil, Wanda and Auntie Rae. Plus I'd really like to see him bring in Martin Short for an actual plot instead of just a cameo. I think he'd be perfect to self-lampoon himself and his celebrity.

Did it have something to do with exposing himself, because it looks like his fly is open in that photo?

Starting in season 9 (I think), Jeff Garlin appeared to have problems with his mouth/teeth. Did he undergo a dental procedure or oral surgery? My other theory is that he said the wrong thing to the wrong person and was struck in the mouth. Something was definitely going on with him, and it may have been part of an inside joke that launched the humor in the Fake Fruit episode, where Larry, Leon and Jeff had problems with their teeth/mouth with hilarious consequences.

Curb is no longer the juggernaut that it used to be, but it's still great and I'll still watch. Anything with Larry David will get my attention.

Yes, in the show they basically said, "he took a long vacation to China" or something, and Vince Vaughn has taken his place as a relative.

The trades were full of information about it, and basically Garlin (who was a standup comic for 35 years) used a lot of politically-incorrect words -- particularly the C-word -- on set and in mixed company. It made a lot of people uncomfortable, and he was told several times to stop and would not. He did not touch anyone inappropriately or proposition anybody, so this is not a "Harvey Weinstein" situation. In fairness, Jeff also complained that he never expected The Goldbergs to run nine seasons, and he's weary of doing the same thing week after week after week and couldn't get out of his contract. He's joked that he wouldn't stop cursing so that they would fire him, and I think he's still getting paid (for this season). They're using outtakes and CGI doubles as a temporary replacement.

Jeff Garlin Exits ‘The Goldbergs’ Following HR Investigations – Deadline

Jeff Garlin’s ‘Goldbergs’ Absence Inspires Increasingly Awkward Workarounds — and Twitter Snark

"Variety reported in December 2021 that Garlin would not film any new episodes of “The Goldbergs” for Season 9, and his stand-in would be filmed from the neck down and from the back. Additionally, Garlin’s head has previously been “superimposed on the other man’s body” for promotional material.

"Variety stated that Garlin could continue to appear in the rest of the season by “using off-camera dialogue pulled from earlier episodes and unused takes, as well as previously shot images of Garlin.” To note, Garlin would continue to be paid per episode appearance."

Now, to me, I think it's pretty uncomfortable to use bad words in mixed company, especially if you're among the highest-paid people on the show. It's no different than working in an office or a restaurant or any kind of public position. I catch myself with clients and will say "F'ing" without the whole word, or "crap" when I mean "s***," but I worked in radio long enough to know there's a time and a place where cursing is OK, and a time where it's not. If I was getting paid $100K a week, I would smile, nod, say my words from the script, and then go back to my dressing room and be very happy.

Having said that: CGI Jeff Garlin looks very bad...

That's not the issue we're discussing. I guess you have me on ignore, but the issue was a dental problem with his teeth/mouth that made JG's face look a bit disfigured and his delivery seem a bit off starting around S9.

I thought Tracey Ullman was one of the best things about last season. I guess she won't be back, but she's hilarious.
