Badfinger teams up with Rick Wakeman for new version of the band’s 1969 hit “Come and Get It”

"Cleopatra Records - Badfinger has released a new version of the band's 1969 Paul McCartney-penned hit "Come and Get It" as a digital single and via streaming services.

The track features a little help from former Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who contributes piano to the updated recording.

Lead vocals are courtesy of an archival recording by Badfinger singer/guitarist Joey Molland, who is the last surviving original member of the group."

 

Why hasn't Paul ever just knocked out a whole batch of these early unreleased Lennon/McCartney songs? If there are "about a hundred", surely he could pick out his favorite 10 or so and record them well solo acoustic or with his touring band and it would be a nice little release at this point. Throw in a studio version of "In Spite of All the Danger" which his touring band plays often...Full circle kind of thing.

Yes, and she said it was taken when Paul and Rick Rubin were working on a *documentary*, yet now this photo is making the rounds roughly titled "Paul in a recoding studio working on McCartney 3". I couldd be wrong, of course, but my guess is more that they are working on something to do with John's 80th brithday later this year. I would be happy to be proven wrong, though...

 

Yes, I thought I had remembered the documentary part but couldn’t find it to refresh my memory. I’ve seen the picture with “ in the studio with” attached and I thought I remembered wrong

 

It’s certainly not a bad cover version of “Come and Get It”. I’m sort of wondering what the point of it is, but if others want to come and get it.. great.

Weird...! And this is nitpicky, but does Joey Molland get to claim "original member" status? Is the loophole here that he had joined (as far as I know?) just in time for the band's name-change from Iveys to Badfinger?

 

Make sure us Americans can get to hear that interview Sean did with Paul...

Joey joined after Badfinger recorded Come & Get It yet ironically receives royalties on the song even though he’s not on it.

 

Cleopatra records own the rights to demos that Joey re-recorded for a project in mid-90's. Cleopatra will continue to release all of these tracks picking artists on their label to overdub. Guests so far...

Interesting. Of course, Billboard has changed these rules several times, so it's not like this latest version was handed to Moses on stone tablets.

I was at this concert! Great and surprising set list, also first time playing "The word" live...

 

He played it a few days later in Paris.

Hey! I honestly needed a new one though!

...and I mean, what's a left oven mitt with out a right oven mitt? So I had to get 2, y'know?
