Wow, I was wrong . You really know your McCartney history! I'll apologize by quoting the lyrics of your favorite McCartney song: When you're weary Dr. Pepper, feeling small When tears are in your eyes I'll have Ben dry them all (I'm sure not touching you) I'm on your side , oh , and when times get rough And friends just can't be found I'd say you're out of luck pal, And on that bridge over troubled water I'll run you down with a Dr. Pepper truck. I know you are probably crying now, reading these nice sentiments from me, but suck it up and get over it.
An unknown McCartney outtake found it's way to the internet last night: Paul McCartney - "Cruising Ahead" »
Woah. Great find!! Seriously, this is great. Very tasty. It sounds to me like it's from the Russian album sessions. Is this an original song? It's done in 50's Elvis style but I'm not familiar enough with Elvis to know if this is one of his. Can't believe Paul has stuff like this, unheard, sitting in the archives. Thank you for sharing Yorick!
No no, you gotta thank @cb70 first! By the way, substantial upgrades of some of the infamous Trevor Jones are now circulating. Everything is not there... but the great "Speed Of Sound" rough mixes are definitely part of the bunch. Here's a simple of the instrumental version of "Time To Hide" to give you an example of how improved it is now: Wings - "Time To Hide" [backing Track] (1976 outtake) » It now also has a 2nd, slightly different version of the "Silly Love Song" rough mix.
You know, between this and the Girls School alternate version floating around in the last 12 hours, I realized how hungry I am for some new McCartney.
I am too, but this stuff settles me for a while It's funny how stuff from the last century get leaked every now and then but nothing from the 2000s get leaked! I'm more interested in the newer stuff myself.. I like Crusing Around*, very cool to hear. *Ahead
You are right. I wonder if this means MPL is trolling through the Archives, and that is how this stuff gets kicked up? The project is still working its way thru the 70s and 80s, so, on that level it makes sense that nothing from the new century bubbles up. But who knows? On Cruising Around, I think Paul's voice sounds too strong to be from RDR. That's why I'm going with Choba. Any guesses who might be playing that lead guitar lick? It's very tasty. Would love to know more, whatever era it is from. Great track.
"Cruising Ahead" is great. From '79 - so it's Wings? Where are these "new" things coming from? (this and the acetate of Girls School). Is MPL trolling for the archive series?
@mrjinks Do you want to limit this to new stuff only? A lot of my clippings from the '70s are about Paul and in particular the '76 tour. I won't post if you don't want them here.
Maybe we could have "FLASHBACK FRIDAYS", where we will permit the posting of old news items from selected decades. How about that?
That's it! I'm going back to the Bowie news thread, where they appreciate all the ancient, musty articles people have been hoarding in their basements for decades!
Paul Signs Worldwide Recording Agreement With Capitol Records » So: New album coming soon What next for the reissue series?
Is this why Flowers in the Dirt is taking forever? Either way this is pretty cool honestly. Paul is Home!
Paul Signs Worldwide Recording Agreement With Capitol Records » So this could explain why the stalling of reissues...
No, the Archive sets have been on a snail's pace since 2010, with 1 or 2 releases per year. And Flowers In The Dirt is still on schedule for October 2016 according to: BUT maybe future Archive sets (from 2017 onwards) could be affected.
I'm shocked, does this mean the Archive sets after Flowers will be cancelled? Perhaps they weren't meeting sales expectations. I was pretty happy with everything Concord was putting out. Also, will it be hard to find these reissues later on in life? I'm missing Tug Of War, Pipes of Peace & Wings At The Speed Of Sound... If the catalog is leaving Concord, they might not be able to press anything else.
