thanks. I never owned this lp, but I remember Man performing 'Sister Salvation' on the Ed Sullivan show. Columbia Records had a lot of clout then.
I bought the original U.S. WB vinyl upon release as an import over here and it it remains one of my favourite country records ever! I find it hard to understand how this artist slipped through the cracks? The sound quality on the WB vinyl is fantastic as well.
I can tolerate the remasters. They weren’t sonic wonders to begin with but the boxed sets are worth it for the extra tracks even if they aren’t as dynamic asI would like...Kinks fans are in the same boat along with the Stones with the last remasters that sounded decent for them being the Ludwig’s from the 90’s.
Did you download the latest reissues with the exclusive bonus tracks? How are they? Given thst ive got all of the albums on CD or vinyl, I’m a little reluctant to rebuy except for the bonus tracks.
It’s available on this collection. Bobbie Gentry – The Girl From Chickasaw County (The Complete Capitol Masters) (2018, CD)
They are the best sounding versions that I have ever heard. Magnetic South sounds phenomenal. I love the bonus tracks too.
The best versions you'll hear. The uptick in quality beats the '91 CDs and the 2008 remasters. No contest. I'll be getting the hi-def versions.
Also, you can hear them on Michael Nesmith's youtube page. I think all of the songs from the remasters are up. The FNB songs for sure.
It's funny. If you look at @D-rock 's avatar and mine back-to-back (or top-to-bottom) it looks like the same person from a different angle.
Noticed some new stuff out in the past couple months; I purchased Porter Wagoner's You Got-Ta Have A License in 24/192 his-res. Sounds clean! Some Hank Snow out, and Kenny Price, Lynn Anderson...
There is tons of great Country in Hi-Res, some known, some much less. I think it's great that Sony has kept releasing so many albums from the Columbia and RCA vaults.
How about this Camden LP for streaming and download sometime (only mono will do, of course): Phil Harris - That's What I Like About The South Camden LP Phil Harris - That's What I Like About The South
As you can see, this Camden LP has a bunch of his classics: The tracks of this Camden LP are: A1 The Dark Town Poker Club A2 Woodman, Spare That Tree A3 That's What I Like About the South A4 The Preacher and the Bear A5 Deck of Cards A6 Is It True What They Say About Dixie B1 Goofus B2 The Thing B3 The Persian Kitten B4 St. James Infirmary B5 Muskrat Ramble B6 Row, Row, Row
One of these I really dig is If I Could Just Go Home by Ed Bruce released in 1968. I think it sounds superb. It's a solid album. Musically, I'd describe it as a cross between Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson.
