Trawling through google images and daydreaming about upgrading my speakers, I found a few awesome images with the exterior of the cabinets sliced off revealing the speaker internals.

Anyone got any favourite speaker cutaways they can share?

Bonus points if they're of real speakers and not computer generated images, but all are welcome!

Lots of interesting things going on here, and it still shows off its great silhouette.

I wasn't familiar with Vandersteen @vinylontubes . They certainly have their own design style.

    Thanks for posting.

What's going on here then? Internal woofer and port with a passive radiator?

    You're not wrong!

From the ASR review of this speaker:

"This is a 3-way speaker but the woofer is hidden inside with a port. It then couples to the passive radiator that looks like a woofer. This design uses the filtering that the acoustic coupling provides to also cut out the harmonic distortions of the woofer."

    Dynaudio Contour 20

These look to have some pretty thick side walls... ...and a cloud inside!

I need to hear more Dynaudio. I've only had a couple of minutes in front of a pair of Contour floorstanders.

If I worked in the Sonus Faber factory I'd be the guy fired for accidently putting a massive scratch in that exquisite finish with one careless wave of a screwdriver. I can feel it.

    Paradigm Founder Series

This looks to be a 3D mockup (sans stuffing) of the 120H with the inbuilt bass amp. The new Founder series seems pretty great, and the 100F is in the price range I'll likely be looking in.

    Thanks jonwoody!

That Paradigm Concept is a monster. Was it the prototype for the Persona series?

Andrew Jones design. I talked to him at AXPONA quite a bit about these. He said the passive is much easier to tune with choice of material, weight, size, etc. So you build a mid-bass driver that is pretty good and then make it excellent by tuning it through the passive radiator. Pretty clever way to get much better sound from a driver.

For sure. It's crazy that it even works that way.
