Been listening to this all morning. Causing a lot of uncontrollable head nodding and scrunchy "unhhh" faces. What a gem!

As someone who has never been able to sonically-stomach the compressed files exclusively offered on iTunes purchases, and the fact that my NEVER-USED iTunes account has recently been compromised, I have no choice but to wait for the physical copy to be released. Then again, after 14 years, what's another week or so?!?! I'll wait for D'!

Nobody's mentioned the massive "There's A Riot Going On" influence! Holy god. This album is a MONSTER.

Indeed. Also picked up on some Parliament-esque harmonies and early Prince. Only listened once, but it also struck me as a dirty, gritty album too.

I swear I hear the surface noise of vinyl on a couple tracks. Think they added that?

I wish the album was mastered with more dynamic range (1000 Deaths for example has a dynamic range of only DR6).
But hey...I'm not really complaining. I'm happy that D'Angelo FINALLY released Black Messiah!
Who knows, maybe there's an HDtracks edition in the future?

Yep. Anybody caught what happened at the end of "Really Love?" The run-off/needledrop was brilliantly utilized.

Someone mentioned upthread that the vinyl cut is all-analog. I don't know if that's confirmed.

Damn that seems like a long ways out. I can't wait for tomorrow, never mind February.

  22. Huge. A step fwd from Voodoo, yet in the same vein. So much going on with this music that it'll take a ton of time for it to completely sink in, yet it's instantly catchy and accessible. Last year it was My Bloody Valentine, this year it's D'Angelo with a comeback that's not just a nostalgia trip, but a possible album of the year.

I just checked the site and it showed that both the CD and vinyl have a possible mid-December release. I don't see February.

12 days of @TheDangelo day 1. Ain't that easy... The basis for this song was originally recorded at the now closed plant studios Sausalito

    Ben Kane @kanevibrations
"Ain't" began as a drum loop and was soon fleshed out with a guitar sampled/looped into anASR which now plays a small but still audible role

    Ben Kane @kanevibrations
"Ain't" was fleshed out with Ds own amazing guitar work. Soon accompanied by more D licks and @Sharkey335 on an additional killin guitar.

    Ben Kane @kanevibrations
"Ain't" is the first time you'll hear the vocals of Kendra foster, Ahrel Lumzy and Jermaine Holmes on the gang sections. Vanguards BgVs!

    Ben Kane @kanevibrations
Aint: let me not forget the drums of the one and only James Gadson! Legendary! (lookhimup) You'll be hearing him on a couple other tracks.

The posting I mentioned was on their Facebook page, so perhaps they've gotten updated information in the last several hours with more details?
