Not necessarily, more like a time when the imagery would have been more acceptable.

I just want to say I'm glad this thread exists if only because I'd never seen this music video before. I dislike music videos but this may be the best one ever made. It's glorious.

I think the cover of Liege and Lief is more dated, though that's not to say I dislike it.

It's the pink, and that ornate border, that make it look very 1960s.

Actually it's the cover art of a folk music album from the 1970s, former Yugoslavia. Not bad at all if you ask me, as it's a funny stuff as the music & lyrics as well, as it's a kind of somewhat comedy-like folk music, but it's indeed dated 'cause those "pop"-folk album-covers look like this these days in the Region:

Personally, I disagree. For me, it's a timeless artwork due to the nature of the subgenre on that album, which is a floating, also timeless "prog-folk" kind of thing of which there are a lot of new artists today that use a more or less the same kind of artworks for their fantastic albums.

I heavily struggle with calling album covers "dated".
They are part of the art, but also the advertising for its content.
Now if you think of advertising, there's rarely something timeless - most times, you WANT to go for something actual ("modern" and "fresh" are attributes mostly fading so quickly I don't even want to mention them) to get people's attention.
So, I much prefer of describing album covers as "typically of their time" which can again be good or bad - they're testimonies to their timeframe, they're not "dated".
Duran Duran's "Rio" is a case where I'd say it's great and typically 80ties, Maria Muldaur's "Live In London" is more a case of "did they get away with at even back then?"

I don't know if anyone commented on this later, but PCs very definitely existed in 1981 - the Apple II, TRS-80, and Commodore PET all came out in 1977.

You’re right of course, but PCs hadn’t exactly taken off yet. I believe the Commodore 64 launched in 1982 or late 1981 was the first bestseller?

I think that the VIC-20 was a bestseller before the C64. I went thru the entire CBM line in the 80s - VIC-20, C64, C128, and Amiga 1000 :pineapple:

This album popped up in another thread. I don't know if I would call this "avant-garde," but it's from 1973 and (in retrospect) looks like it's from about ten years later:
