My memory is that the reason I could not go is because it was a holiday and my folks wanted everyone home. That is why I always believed it was January 1. However, my memory could be off.

Just did a google on this. I am wrong. You guys are correct. Feb. 2, 1976.

Hey Peter it was the 70s, so given your hazy memory you are forgiven. The big surprise will be hearing Five Years from this show for the first time.....(So must be from RCA Masters? )
And if Station to Station is mixed as well as Young Americans 5.1 Ill be very happy.

Waveforms please? Almost everything is brickwalled these days...:sigh:

They are mostly definitely not brickwalled! Some of the niceest waveforms you'll ever see these days. Most importantly, they sound good.

If the Deluxe STS is as good then I'm sure at least some people might end up preferring it to the (various) RCAs.

they do, although there is still some boosting here and there and evidence of NR... BUT in comparison to other Bowie SEs, these at least make an effort. the rarities and unreleased material makes them no-brainer purchases.

this will be interesting to see. if Maslin has decided to present the music as it was first issued (thus presumably how it was meant to be heard) then it may well knock the WG RCA into second spot. but it's a big "if". he may feel pressured to make it sound different in which case it will more than likely follow the lead of the Ryko which made this essentially "smooth" record sound "crispy".

I see two CD/DVD versions of Young Americans on Amazon, one substantially more expensive than the other. Anyone have any idea why?

The two recent non-brickwalled deluxe editions are Space Oddity and... what is the other one?

Sorry, should have posted this too. For the shallower pocket. The bad news seems to be... no 5.1 mix anywhere - you have to go deluxe for that.

Both the Special and Deluxe Editions come with the original album - taken straight off the analogue master – and the much bootlegged live favourite and previously unreleased Live Nassau Coliseum ‘76. Additionally, the Special Edition includes: A 16-page booklet and 3 postcards of Bowie in the recording studio, in a photographic studio & on stage. Along with the 3-CDs in wallets, it’s all packaged in a lift-off-lid box.

    Special Edition

    6. Wild Is The Wind

CD 2: Live Nassau Coliseum '76 - PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED
(Recorded live at the Nassau Coliseum Uniondale, NY, USA March 23, 1976):

I see they've gone back to the original black and white covert artwork, no sign of the colour version that was used for previous reissues.

Really nice looking deluxe package. I probably can't afford it but might try to stretch to it anyway.

Station To Station (original analogue master, LPCM stereo)

included on the DVD will be the same as the original RCA CD...?

The deluxe has the 1985 RCA mastering, as well as a new 2010 mastering! That's surprising and maybe slightly OTT, but I'm not complaining.

Not sure I want to hear a single edit of Station To Station. I can't imagine that could be good at all, if you've heard the whole epic thing. But I guess this is for completists. Anyone know if this is a newly done edit, or if this was done back in the 70's and just never released?

I read there's also a digital download with a 13 minute version of 'Panic in Detroit' - sounds like it'll be the live version including the full drum solo.
