Now if only Bowie had got to together one last time with Hutch and Hermione to record new versions of Ching a Ling and Sell Me a Coat. That would have been something.
Not sure Imani would have been too keen on that idea. He could have given the Lower Third a ring though…..’Boys, I’m getting the band back together’
Not surprising. Get the word out; everyone then panic buys the box sets and then Parlophone release the 12" vinyl and standalone CD versions later in the year. Kerching-A-Ling.
why panic. I do not understand. if you didn’t buy on time, and you could, it means you didn’t want to buy.
No idea what that means, but apparently this is a limited edition. But then again so are the silly 7" box sets and other extremely limited vinyl that preceded the Conversation Piece box set and all of those are still broadly available.
I listened to the Toy recordings when they were first circulated and they did nothing for me. He sounds rather detached from the whole thing and it's all very dreary and bland. It also came after Hours, which was the point where his albums began to bore me (apart from the odd song). The Next Day sessions were a big improvement thank God. That said, I'll give this another chance on Spotify.
Slightly off topic but I watched Bowie's 2000 set at Glastonbury which was broadcast on BBC2 last night. The man WAS good! What an awesome creative back catalogue.
I'll check Pegg's book in a mo and see if there's any info. Edit - no mention in either Pegg's or O'Leary's excellent reference books.
It's Ok! but is what it is, a minor work, I see this box only for Bowie completists. Personally I will get a single disc version when it becomes available.
Probably because Bowie experimented to use the time creatively while the record company decided what to do with the project. Maybe Bowie thought having Moby on a song could be a selling point also? Obviously there is a blurred timeline after the initial 2000 recoring sessions. Tony Visconti mixed many of the tracks afterwards and then new tracks Uncle Floyd and Afraid. I think Bowie thought he could improve the album. Then it envolved into Heathen instead.
I would be up for a single disc edition that includes all the unique tracks on one disc. Alternatively I will just transfer it to my Ipod, which is where I have the leaked version. I added Pictures of Lily to that version too.
Saw that too and it wasn't as good as I remembered. The broadcast is also focused on the greatest hits of an already GH setlist show. He seemed extremely nervous, messing with opening lines, working around vocal cords straining parts ... BBC 2000 show worked out way better, despite his struggling with laryngitis on both shows.
