    Unless, like me, you "discovered" Bowie in the 80's as RCA had dropped the lyric sheets and the gatefold sleeves from all the black label LP's I bought.

    fair enough but they're still far from indecipherable. a few words here and there but you can say that about thousands of songs.

    Same here in So Cal--I remember hearing it in the middle of the night on KGB (San Diego) as an impressionable 13-year-old. And what an impression! Still gives me goosebumps; I wouldn't change a thing about it.

    "Panic in Detroit" also got significant FM play here. Gawd what a great album!

    No, wouldn't change a thing. In fact, until I read this thread, I hadn't even noticed that the vocals were low.
