Very sad news. I just listened to his "Rock Me Baby" record last week. I really enjoyed "Some Kind of a Summer".

Man I gotta say that when I was a kid I loved the Partridge Family. I remember having the crossword album in my collection also. At least he’s not suffering anymore. RIP David. :(

My first band was a Partridge Family band, where we just Kareoke'd the words. I was in 2nd grade. Went on to be a real musician, but Keith was my original inspiration. RIP

I've been a big fan since I first heard I Think I Love You on the Radio. Best pop vocalist of all time.

    Ricky's Tune
    by David Cassidy

    Are you sleeping my baby?
Just close your eyes and let me run away
    Now, don't cha cry
I am leaving my sweet baby
I've been in love with one who's far away
    I can't live a lie
I've got something inside of me you know I can't hide
And each day since I left her
    She's been on my mind
So take care of yourself and my, my Ricky besides
He's the best friend I had
    I guess this is good-bye

    Are you weeping my baby?
I let you down but I just cannot stay
    I can't live a lie
Now I am leaving my sweet baby
I got my ticket, it won't pass me by
    I can't live a lie
I've got something inside of me you know I can't hide
And each day since I left her
    She's been on my mind
So take care of yourself and my, my Ricky besides
He's the best friend I had
    I guess this is good-bye
    This is good bye
    I guess this is goodbye

I was ten when The Partridge Family first came on the air. I ended up with three of their albums, and (like others of a similar age back then) I wanted to be David Cassidy. The guy seemed to have it all. So strange and sad that his life would end the way it did. I imagine other surviving members of the cast are especially heart broken this evening. So many memories for all involved--cast, crew and audience.

Well, David's suffering is now over. May he rest in peace.

Gotta admit I always hated the Partridge Family. To me they were part of that awful bubblegum sound that was so big circa 1970, with Bobby Sherman, et al, that my deeply sophisticated 14 year old ears thought was way, way beneath me. But I am really, really tired of the soundtrack of my youth dying off. Can we have a moratorium on musician deaths for the rest of the year, at least?

With passing of artists such as David, it's as if a part of our life passes with them. David Cassidy had his share of successes and also disappointments. I once heard him state in an interview that he wished that his fans could have heard some of his more guitar playing virtuosity other than his pop music successes. I guess he felt unfulfilled in that respect. I sensed this was coming but was hopeful that he would have survived his illness. RIP David, you still have your fans and your art will live on.

I'm a big 60s/70s pop & bubblegum fan and this one hits a little harder than some others have; don't know why. His impact on the pop culture of the early 70s is immeasurable.

I always recommend the movie "The Spirit of '76" based on his performance; very self-aware satirically. As others have mentioned, his interplay with Bonaduce on the TV series was classic. Dave Madden mentioned in an interview that turning Keith into a buffoon was one of the things that ruined the show, but I think it gave David a chance to really flex his comedy chops. He has left an amazing recorded legacy (music & film). I will forever cherish it.

I'm sad to hear this, despite being prepared to hear it, based on the coverage. RIP. He was the one voice that made The Partridge Family tolerable for me.

I always liked him, nice interview Ken!

In a strange way I think Keith worked any way they played him. He had a sweetness that was right in line with the changing times. Keith Partridge just had a cool, a non-jackass you wanted to be his friend, he crossed all lines. Although David said that he was so different from Keith, I don't doubt it, but he was very likable himself. RIP. I will miss him.

What too many people don't know is that he more than proved his mettle after the Partridge Family. His three mid-70s solo albums -- The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall; Home Is Where The Heart Is; and Gettin' It In The Street (the first two produced by ex-Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, the latter by Gerry Beckley of America) -- were excellent pop rock of that era. They're highly recommended and well worth seeking out!

    RIP, David.

Very sad news. I was hoping that he might pull through. Such a classic guy. I watched The Partridge Family when I was a little kid, and I still watch it when it comes on. RIP, David.

    to a young child

    Márgarét, áre you gríeving
    Over Goldengrove unleaving?
Leáves like the things of man, you
With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?
Ah! ás the heart grows older
It will come to such sights colder
By and by, nor spare a sigh
    Though worlds of wanwood leafmeal lie;
And yet you wíll weep and know why.
Now no matter, child, the name:
    Sórrow’s spríngs áre the same.
Nor mouth had, no nor mind, expressed
What heart heard of, ghost guessed:
It ís the blight man was born for,
It is Margaret you mourn for.
