  2. First heard the CD a few years ago when I found one for 25-cents at a thrift store. Loved it on first listen & played it in the car for months. Couple years ago I chanced upon an original LP on vacation, when I went into Honolulu to check out Ideas Records, which used to be Jelly's Music according to the old price-sticker on the LP cover. Anywhoo...the Monarch pressing is a sonic marvel:

Mine is a 1975 repress by Specialty that is no sonic slouch. But I would be very interested to hear an earlier pressing. It's a pretty common used LP that I see often.

  5. I'd like to hear "Tamalpais High" and "Song With No Words" get a higher profile by musicians or bands performing live instrumental arrangements of the songs. Or at least working in extended quotes in jams. " Heh, I'm going to listen to that record now...

Yeah, amazing sound just like most other stuff recorded at Wally Heider in SF back then. Heard this lovely Herbie Hancock song, "Butterfly", investigated the album it came from, 1974's Thrust, and sure enough, the album was recorded at Wally Heider's.

    Ahh . . . Jelly’s Records. In 1991, I found a Beatles butcher cover there. A great memory.

Why do you think he wouldn't be able to? He seems more lucid the last decade or so than he has been since the 60's.

When I saw CSN in 2014, Crosby & Nash sang "What Are Their Names" a capella and it was perfection. One of the highlights for me, it was soaring and beautiful and poignant, coming right out of "Guinnevere."

Just kidding about him getting older and all the crap he's been thru. So, he's better health wise these days? I was never a fan but respected his musical abilities and his Martin guitar love and usage. I have that album but if I could only remember where I put it.:sigh:

Rather than pay a premium for the Classic Records title, isn’t the currently available vinyl mastered by Bernie Grundman as well? Is it the same as the Classic?

The most recent remaster that I know of was done by Chris Bellman.

I would like to pick up this album on vinyl. Is this a good alternative? It's pretty inexpensive.

    [EDIT]
SORRY. Searched the thread and found the answer. I'll get this.

If I loved the dreamy, atmospheric vibe of this album what others could people recommend?

One of my favorite albums. Just gorgeous. And without getting too far into it, 48 years later "What are Their Names?" is still sadly relevant.

I hope one day someone releases the full Planet Earth Rock n Roll Orchestra sessions (outtakes) from this time. Croz, Garcia, Lesh, Jorma, Grace Slick, etc . Extraordinary stuff. Wall Song and Mountain Song are two of the best things Croz did in his whole career.

My Son (born 1986) moved to the Bay Area and on his first visit home east, he asked me about the album. He heard a lot of "amazing things" about it!

After listening to IICORMN, more often than not Van Morrison's 'Veedon Fleece' is next up. They seem to work very well together.
