David Gilmour is selling over 120 of his guitars at Christie's on July 20, 2019. Sharing some photos I took at the New York City preview.

    - The Black Strat (1969)

    - Candy Apple Red 57V Strat (1984 Fender reissue line)

    - White 0001 Strat (pre-production Strat with serial number 0001, gifted by Leo Fender; used for rhythm work on "Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)")

    - "All Gold" 1955 Les Paul Goldtop (used for solo on "Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)")

    - Martin D-35 and Martin D12-28 acoustic guitars (both used on "Wish You Were Here")

I missed the link to the original thread in the OP's post. I just kinda wish everything was in one thread so I don't miss anything.

He should give them away to hot young guitar players, otherwise they'll end up under glass in some corporate office.

Fair enough. Although I would have thought he'd have a few bob to spare to do that anyway.

I've said this elsewhere, kudos for this. Take control of your legacy. To be remembered for kindness, humanity, generosity....good on Mr Gilmour. Of COURSE they'll end up behind glass--but, David knows there's nothing magical about them. Giving it to a guitarist? That guitarist won't make **** money, and will have to sell it for pennies on the dollar for his Ramen. Leave it to his kids, who will do largely the same--only to allow them to finance their lifestyle. It will fetch the most money and do the most good with him here to demonstrate which songs came from each....and smile that kind smile.

Fair enough, but my concern is for the guitars. They may not be magical to you or him, but a 1955 Les Paul Goldtop (for instance) is pretty magical to me, and deserves to be played.

In most cases I think you're right, but not here. A 58-59 LP Burst should be played, despite the 1/4 million price tag!!! (thanks Joe Bonamassa!) But I don't want Gilmour's black strat in the hands of sweaty kid playing the Whiskey. It needs to be preserved the way the Mona Lisa is preserved. (but yes, preferably in a museum and not in a lawyers office - his other guitars I'm fine with going to hot young guitar players)

Wow, that's some collection. Surprised he's not saving the gems for his kids.

I hope they knock some money off the asking prices because they are scratched!
