    They're not going to replace a 67-year-old with a 65-year-old.

Should have happened years ago. I was a huge Dave
Letterman fan but the 00s hasnt been his best imo. Great show for about 10-12 yrs then his biting humor turned cynical old grumpy man eventually. Which he is and has a right to be a grump. But not on my TV. RIP "Late Night"..you were the closest thing to Carsondom we had.

I think if it was going to be Ferguson, the announcement would have been made simultaneously with Dave's retirement...

  5. Not a chance, they're as tainted by politics as Jon Stewart.

But, on a slightly different front: while there's no way I could see Tina Fey on a late night show - she just doesn't have what it takes from what I can see - I could see her taking over from Jon Stewart when the day comes.

    Isn't Colbert in character?
He would be pretty good as a host

I'm enjoying Seth's show more than Jimmy's, for what that's worth...

Those are all fine - especially Sykes. But please NO Whoopie Goldberg. Someone somewhere was speculating on that.

I wouldn't be so certain. Letterman's audience is already an older demographic these days. In order to hang onto Letterman's current audience, and perhaps capture some of Leno's audience who doesn't like Fallon, they may stick with an older host (50+). It's not a recipe to build a 20-30 year reign from, but they may be happy just trying to capture the audience for the next 5-10 years, while they groom a younger host to eventually take over.

Yep. I saw his very first NBC broadcast in '82, and have always been a fan. I guess it's the curmudgeon in me.

I'll absolutely miss having Dave on the tube.

They didn't have an issue when Tom Snyder came back in 1995.

Love Ferguson...not to sure if his show would work in that time slot. IMHO Ferguson is the best of the late night shows. Had a feeling Dave was gonna retire. Best thing about Dave's retiring is that I won't ever have to see Paul Shaffer ever again. Most annoying band leader EVER.

It's that snarky, cynical, self-deprecating humor that he did so well.

Graveyard slot. 11:30 is much different that 12:30 when it comes to budgets etc...

Did Letterman's production company give him that job?

My Mom and older brother are both big fans so I basically grew up with Dave on my television from an early age. I got the chance to see his show live twice. Once with Robin Williams, Patsy Kensit and Spacehog and the other time with Dudley Moore and Yo Yo Ma.

The Dudley Moore episods was one of my first times to NYC and I remember buying a Peter Gabriel VHS bootleg of his 1978 Rockpalast appearance with Sid McGinnes on guitar. After the show my brother and I waited around to talk to the band and I showed it to Sid and had him autograph the cover. He was stunned that a video of the performance existed and I gave him the business card of the store I got it from.

I like Craig Ferguson, but I wouldn't want him to take over that show I guess they could buy Kimmel or Conan Bill Maher or Stephen Colbert would be best

I'll always love Dave giving Warren Zevon airtime, especially when he got sick in 2002. An entire show dedicated to someone who wasn't a superstar. Only Dave could do that.
