Speaking of early '90s parking lots, does anyone else ever wonder what the Falafel Mafia are doing these days?
Yeah, I really enjoyed seeing D&C but given a choice I'd like just about everything to be faster. But that's not a reasonable expectation at this point. As Lennon said, "A little bit older and a little bit slower".
I don't think it's necessarily an age issue. Bob was slowing things down at Ratdog shows 15 years ago, and Phil doesn't slow things down at all.
On the other hand, when Bob doesn't try to play the stuff that shouldn't be slow, he's great. The acoustic sets from 2014 Ratdog tour, the Bob & Phil shows, the campfire band, the shows with DNB, great great great stuff.
Phil’s band played all the songs with crisp tempos in March. And without a great drummer. Surpassed my expectations.
Bob sings more than Phil. I like to think that it's a big part of the slow tempos. So I guess it's an age thing.. maybe
Phil didn’t sing at all on 3/16/18 - maybe because it was the third night of three and he was obviously tired by the end of the second set. Maybe ironic that his playing became stronger as the night wore on and they went into The Other One (in the middle of Bird Song), his sound was immense. We sure were hoping for a Box of Rain encore but it was not to be. If Phil is still doing this little run next Spring at Capital Theatre and it’s 2 or 3 shows, I’m going to 2 of them. As I said, surpassed my expectations. How much of that was the great guitar playing of John Scofield? Not sure but it still would have been very good without him.
Well, I'm in for Dodger Stadium, regardless of pacing. Maybe Mayer at this point can give him a kick in the Bobbies, "Look, dude, you're putting them to sleep out there." One day later, John leaves and it's the triumphant return of Mark Karan, with special guest Kenny Brooks! Everyone knows Eyes is incomplete without saxophone.
Love DandC mostly, but yeh, when Cassidy or Touch end up sounding like He's Gone opiated shuffle tempo, it doesn't feel great.
Thanks / September 6th @ Capital Theatre Looks like Nicki Bluhm (singer?) & Eric Krasno (guitar & singing) are guests. Tickets on sale this Friday 5/18 - methinks I’m getting 2 and maybe better seats than last time
Only 45 miles from my place. Was there last Saturday. Buying tickets Friday morning. Wife even excited. She wants to spend the money for Loge seats!! Yeah Baby!!!!
I actually skipped them when they were here something i NEVER would have done when younger ,we actually made the trek to Chicago for FTW and had a blast ,but the stars just did not line up properly at all when they were here in Fl
"opiated shuffle tempo" is a good description. There's a Shakedown Street from 2004 I heard that literally sounds like it's in slow motion, I honest to god thought it was a joke when I heard it. Funny though, people say he slowed down the tunes with Ratdog too, but to me that only happened in 2014 where the mid set acoustic break was head and shoulders above the mid tempo electric groovers.
Can I post this here? Got pre-sale notice and I almost paid big $$$ for the Loge but I settled for reasonably priced 4th row Center Balcony for the September 6th Phil Lesh concert @ Capital Theatre. Very excited to see Phil again. Happy to be closer than last time. Was VERY tempted to go for the front row Loge but I also want to have somewhere to go home to tonight

One hour to show time. I am putting on my virtual reality head set for a simulated walk through the Great Woods parking lot.
