How do you guys rate Derek and the Dominos' performances at the Fillmore East? Is it great? Is it mediocre? Is it bad? Was D&D as good as the other bands that played at the Fillmore East?

Of course I've heard In Concert/Live at the Fillmore, but I just wanna know what do you think about those performances. Thank you. :)

    Thanks for replying.

I've heard their Capitol Theatre recordings on YouTube the other day. Despite the bad audio quality, I thought the performance were better than when they played at the Fillmore. What do you think?

    You asked:
Was D&D as good as the other bands that played at the Fillmore East?

Well, as hundreds of fantastic performances occurred at the Fillmore East, you really cannot compare them. Take a look at the list:

But D&D were an incredible live band, so they definitely were one of the great bands that played the Fillmore. The version of "Why Does Love Got To Be So Bad?" from In Concert is one of my favorite live tracks by any performer ever though.

I have heard a rumor (and it's just a rumor!) that the entire Tour was soundboard recorded and the tapes were all stolen shortly after the end of the Tour. Imagine coming across those tapes--would rival the Betty Boards!! My personal favorite is the Cincinnati show--1/2 way through the first number, Eric kicks the volume pedal and never lets up for the entire show. Plus BB King guests for the encore (and I'm guessing his presence has something to do with EC's performance).

    Hello Arnold!!
You said D&D were an incredible live band. I'm just curious, do you think they were as The Allman Brothers Band? I love D&D but the only professionally recorded live performances we got (IC/LATF) weren't even their best performances. And it haunts me, Arnold..

    It sucks man!!

I've always thought Eric's backing vocals on Everyday I Have the Blues was annoying

    Apples versus Oranges. Can't compare.

BOTH bands (along with others too) were great. And both bands had great days, weaker days, average days, out-of-this-world days, etc. That was the magic. It came from a special place.

imo...too much eric and not enough derek.
He basically took this tour to play mostly songs from his solo album.
blues power 11minutes, bottle of red wine 7 minutes, let it rain 20minutes!
crossroads from cream 8min and prsense of the lord from blind faith 7min.

and whatever scraps of time is left is from the layla album.

He's no Hendrix but pretty good :).
I always liked those recordings; Eric is pushing himself, which he quit doing as the 70s developed.

Best ever slide work of Eric is part of the D&D show at Electric Factory Pennsylvania, October 16, 1970, early show.

You're right, Arnold. It's stupid to compare bands. Like I said before, the Fillmore performances (probably) weren't even their best. On the other other hand, The Allman Bros fans got At Fillmore East (and even better, The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings), Deadhead got Live/Dead, Jimi fans got Winterland Ballroom recordings, etc., etc.

If only the better performance from their 1970 tour was recorded professionally and released as an album, the public would recognize D&D's greatness .

They only had one album, man.. That's why they did what they did. The problem is they played those Eric's songs a little too long. And I have to admit, I hate Jim Gordon's drum solos :sigh:
