I appreciate John Williams so much for all soundstracks, but Jurassic Park always was my favourite by far. I guess for generational issues.

    What soundtrack defined you?

This soundtrack to me is absolutely devastating......I remember lying on the floor watching this when my Dad broke the news that my Mom had passed away.
I have the dvd still in the celophane wrap. Maybe one day i will watch it.

"Dawn of the Dead" by Goblin
    Rocky Horror Picture Show
    Xanadu
    Hair

These all hit me right around the same time I was getting into my own musical tastes.

(I'm defining Soundtracks as music from Films as opposed to something like "Original Cast Albums" from Broadway shows so RHPS and Hair are the film soundtracks...)

Hard to think of one. I remember vividly Jesus Christ Superstar, Saturday Night Fever and Grease when I was an adolescent, but didn't like them very much (at the time) so cannot say they had much impact on me, much less "defined" my childhood. Perhaps the only one that left a big impression on me was the 1981 film Christiane F. - Wir Kinder Vom Bahnhof Zoo (We Children from Zoo Station) with David Bowie's soundtrack of nine songs from "Station To Station", "Low", "Heroes" and "Lodger". Not only was I a huge Bowie fan already, but the songs made so much sense within the context of the movie (which that portrays the true story, in graphic, sometimes lurid, detail, Vera Christiane Felscherinow's descent from bored 13 year-old growing up in mid 1970s West Berlin to a 14 year-old heroin-addict), that it changed the way I looked at Bowie and his "Berlin" work and at the hard-drugs scene at the time, which also affect my own country. Strong stuff.

So many of John Williams soundtracks defined my adolescence. Star Wars, Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark to name a few. Any time as a kid when I was about swing on a rope or jump across a body of water I would hum the first set of notes of the Raiders theme. :wiggle:

South Pacific. I loved music from the time I was aware of my existence. So when I got old enough to be able to work my parents' stereo set, I started playing the records they had in their collection at the time. Among them, and the one I played frequently, was the South Pacific Soundtrack on RCA Victor. I was too young to understand what the lyrics were about, but the melodies and vocals made me pay attention and want to hear everything I could get my hands on, and I never forgot what soundtrack was the seed.

For me it's the Tron soundtrack by Wendy Carlos. As a kid I played that cassette into an unplayable condition. It was the key to my love of electronic sound. I loved the seamless combination of the synths and orchestra. I was nine when that film came out and was extremely happy when it was finally rereleased on CD near 20 years later.

    Regards,
    Dave

I recall listening to the "Animal House" soundtrack on 8track in my preschool days.

A couple years later I was rocking the "Popeye" cassette tape.

John Williams’ score from the first Star Wars movie. It came out when I was 13, and I just about wore it out from playing it so much. It sparked my interest in film scores, which continues to this day.
