Pete Townshend and Keith Moon (as Tommy & the Bijoux) of The Who play on Mike Heron's (Incredible String Band) first solo album Smiling Men with bad reputation
Sting and his first wife are the handclappers on XTC's Life Begins At The Hop. Boy George provides the handclaps on the Suede single Filmstar
Isn't Steve Hillage playing guitar on Donovan's 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' ? The same boyo would go on to play on some of Khaled's recording years later.
One that blew my mind when I first found out about it was Tina Turner and couple of the other Ikettes doing the backing vocals throughout Zappa's Overnite Sensation album. Also: Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter subbing for Joe Perry and Brad Whitford on at least "Train Kept A Rollin'" (possibly more) from Aerosmith's Get Your Wings album.
John Bonham, Jack Bruce, Leslie Harvey and Maurice Gibb (who also wrote it) all play on this Lulu track: They play on the studio recording but are not on this clip, sadly. It would have been great to see those in the TOTP studio.
No they don't. They played on a version of, I think, Relax that didn't get released. That's as far as their involvement went.
Mick Ronson plays one of the guitar solos on The Wildhearts' "My Baby is a Head****"...a short, stinging slide solo because Ginger couldn't play slide guitar very well!
Oh ? Urban myth then. Did Hillage produce it ? I thought I'd heard that Jimmy Page might also have played on it.
Devo's Jerry Casale and Mark Motherbaugh sang backing vocals on Debbie Harry's Koo Koo album as well as Jermaine Jackson's single Let Me Tickle Your Fancy. On both releases they were credited as Spud and Pud Devo. On Toni Basil's Word of Mouth album all of Devo perform on the covers of Space Girls and You Gotta Problem and all of the band bar Alan Myers play on the cover of Be Stiff. Both Brian Eno and David Bowie recorded background vocal tracks for Devo's debut Q. Are we Not Men? A. We Are Devo! though the band removed them when mixing the album.
