Differences between the Naim CD5, CD5i and CD5Si

Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade my CD Player and I've always wanted a Naim Player

I'm looking at either a used CD5, CD5i or CD5si but with no way of comparing these players I wonder if anyone has any experience with them?

I know that at least one or two of these players only has a DIN output and none of them has a digital out; I'm fine with that as there's no issue for me, but I am interested in differences in sound or anything different that might affect the sound.

Any info will be greatly received.

 

You want the CD5 si. It's the best of the 5 series players. Better power supply, newer transport. I am a Naim dealer in NJ and can tell you this with confidence.

 

Thanks, that's pretty much what I've picked up from others - However a good few have said to get the CD5 and it's upgradable to a much higher standard than the 5si, would you agree with that? I think they are talking external power supply.

 

Absolutely agree. I have owned all three.

 

Are you saying the 5si was leagues ahead of the 5 or is it fairly marginal?

 

Enough better to be noticeable, easily.

 

Would love to ask the Naim execs so why did they drop the “upgrade path” from their sole remaining CD player? Seems to go against their marketing and brand indentity

 

Guess I'm looking for the 5si then....
