My Amazon.ca order says November 1st now instead of October 18th.

On the one hand, I’m disappointed for the delay (and it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if it isn’t the last), but the end of the year is shaping up to be brutal on the credit card because of so many great releases.

So there is that little part of me that is OK with stuff slipping right now. A few releases trickling over into the new year wouldn’t totally break my heart.

Music Direct doesn't deliver to PO boxes with the shipping options I have. Im hoping to find a way around it. The good thing is that Amazon doesn't charge until its shipped. Its 170 CAD with Music Direct and 230 CAD with Amazon.

still debating on the sacds. I think the cds I have sound pretty good. Will have to play them out again to determine.
The BIA sacd does sound very good though.

Love Over Gold will always be my favorite Dire Straits album. I never thought of the SQ being inferior to the first three albums. But the fact that I really love the music might be swaying my opinion . It's amazing that they only put out six studio albums.

In the spirit of the night I'm playing the Love Over Gold SHM-CD (UICY-75939). Of the many versions of this album I have including the SHM-SACD and Vertigo (?) CD the SHM-CD sounds the best IMO.

Think there's a certain 'fineness' to it Bill, almost too perfect (it's a favorite as well) :). I love my old Japan for US so I'm going to wait on reviews. Communique i'm interested in.

    Cory,

I would agree with that! I also have the US for Japan Love Over Gold CD. It's one of the first CDs I ever bought from Boston Compact Disc in Harvard Square.

This is the version - Dire Straits - Love Over Gold

    Yep, same one!
What did you find in the presentation that won you over with the SHM?

I did a comparison between the SHM-SACD (UIGY-9505), SHM-CD and Japan for US CD awhile back. I found the SHM-CD (UICY-75939) to be the most natural or analog sounding of the three. It was close with all sounding great but the SHM-CD was my favorite.

SACDs ordered from Music Direct (all but Love Over Gold). Free shipping. Looking forward to a decent sounding Making Movies (after the atrocity that is the SHM-SACD).

I hope that those of you who ordered the Dire Straits titles right when they were announced and available for pre-order from the start have remembered to update your card information with whoever you put your orders in with. In that regard, you won't get a delay in your orders.

I'll have to check out ELO's Secret Messages as I've never heard it. Unfortunately the Love Over Gold SHM-CD from 2013 is OOP.
This is good advice. I recently called Music Direct to update my credit card information. Don't want to miss out on the 20% discount that was available when I placed the pre-order in April of 2017.

Decided to start of the morning right so I'm playing the Dire Straits S/T SHM-CD (UICY-75769). As with the Love Over Gold SHM-CD the S/T SHM-CD is the definitive version in my collection of S/T versions. The volume is cranked and the SQ is excellent! I can definitely hear a more analog quality to this when compared to Love Over Gold.

Looking at Discogs the prices are getting up there for the S/T SHM-CD.

Has anyone's Music Direct order shipped yet? A bit surprising that something that's supposedly releasing tomorrow hasn't shipped yet for me.

It's interesting that these took soooo long to finally come out. I wonder if they were waiting for the Warner "Because Sound Matters" reissues from 2009 or 2010 to sell out - they were mastered by Bernie Grundman and sound pretty good to me.

I think I'll order Making Movies and wait on the others until I read reviews.

You realize they AREN'T released tomorrow. Music Direct would have release dates instead of TBA if they were expected tomorrow. And if they are "In Stock" tomorrow at Music Direct, they wouldn't start shipping until tomorrow.

I would think they'd try to get them out to customers ON the release date instead of having to wait the following week. Might be wrong there though.

I would suspect music direct -- functionally a reissue company -- is not typically bound by release-dates the way amazon is with new releases. Amazon will get its stock ahead of time and can thus arrange for release-day delivery, timed to play its role in a large label's marketing campaign. Music direct (I presume), is more typically bound just by stocking issues (so: manufacturing schedules), such that they just send things out when they have them in stock and no more-lucrative orders to occupy their warehouse and shipping staff. Just guessing! But, long story short, I don't think anyone should expect music direct to operate with their reissues (if we can call them that) like amazon would operate with new releases.
