I've only ever used Discogs for information on some CD's I can't find the answers to here on the Hoffman forums. Been looking at other venues/outlets to sell some CD's/Vinyl/Reel To Reel etc. Just trying to grasp how Discogs really works. As I look at them it seems that you cannot upload actual pictures of your item you are selling and have to rely on their pre-ordained pics from their database. Am I right in that assumption? Any thoughts on that forum/venue would be gladly appreciated from both buyers and sellers on the Discogs site. Thanks.

There's a couple threads about discogs experiences in the music forum. Search for them you'll read good and bad experiences from users and sellers alike.
This sub forum isn't really for discussions I'm pretty sure- I think it's just to post about ads that are on other websites.

You can also pm me if you have any questions about using discogs.

I find it easier to sell on eBay. I can just scan the barcodes on my LP and all relevant info is pre-populated. I’m also able to upload my own photos.

I wish discogs were more user friendly but not being able to list items for sale from the mobile app is a complete dealbreaker.

Was this thread moved by mods? If not I made a mistake when I said this was the wrong subforum, sorry.

I'd much rather use a PC to do so than a small screen but to each his own.

As for the info being pre-populated, finding the right pressing and clicking on the Sell Vinyl button ensures that specific pressing is what will be listed. Some different pressings can have the same UPC so I don't consider it the be-all and end-all of how things should be listed.

eBay is far too general for me. The whole point of Discogs is for very specific pressings to be bought and sold. Searching for that through eBay is a nightmare. Pics don't mean anything as plenty of LPs in undesirable condition can appear perfectly fine with regular lighting. Most people's photography skills utterly suck rendering the pics (again) completely useless.

eBay has it's place and I certainly use it from time to time for this purpose but pretty much only when I have to.

I never sell my music, but I do buy plenty. For years I had no idea that you could buy things from Discogs. I thought of it as a reference of sorts.

I've bought several dozen discs from Discogs this year and all of them have turned out to be good purchases. These have all been hard to find out of print discs and the prices I've found on Discogs have been better by far than what I've found on the Amazon Marketplace and Ebay.

I am relatively new to discogs as a buyer and seller. it's been a great experience so far on both counts for me. I am primarily selling CDs though. I buy vinyl and CDs.

I contribute new listings, cover scans, and updated info for the discogs database whenever I can.

yes, I have some minor gripes about it but overall it's pretty great. YMMV

I've bought a lot of stuff there over the past year or so and have found some great bargains. I find the poor grading of vinyl to be about the same as eBay (infrequent). I was shocked today to order from someone who only accepted a money order. It was included in his/her terms, but seriously . . . a money order? I'm perhaps still too used to the purchase consistency and methods of eBay (the occasional nickel-and-dime hidden shipping/handling charges aside). The order was canceled with no problem, but for a time I felt like I was back in the 1980s.

I've been buying from Discogs for a number of years. Recently I placed a listing and there was some miscommunication on my part with a buyer of the item. The issue was I'm not receiving emails from Discogs. I checked all my user settings and made sure my email is listed correctly. All settings are correct. No items from Discogs in any of my junk mail folders.

So the buyer requested that I cancel the invoice. Well that's turned into a real PITA due to the complexity of the Discogs system. I tried to find a way to contact Discogs and they don't list any contact information on their site that I could find. Very frustrating site! Not as visible as Discogs but buying and selling here on SH is so much easier and it's free!

@Bill Mac and you have checked under Settings, Notifications, Account Notifications Personal Email, When another user sends me a message, Marketplace Notifications, Personal Email, When an order is created, confirmed, changes Status, or has new messages?

Every communication I've ever got from a Discogs user (including inquiries) who used their system to send messages, and every order related email from Discogs themselves going back to 2016 is in the mailbox in the upper right hand corner of my dashboard there. I get that your email link is broken and I'm sure it can be fixed but once you knew an order was placed it should have been possible to keep up. I've never had to cancel an order so can't comment there. I see a big now greyed out Cancel button on the order page from my last order, which I would think would get greyed out once shipped.

In order to cancel an order after an invoice has been established the seller has to pay the fees then cancel the invoice. Then the seller has to ask for a refund of those fees. That's absurd IMO! I never even created an invoice for the item I was selling. So I'm not sure how the invoice was even created in the first place.

I received one email from Discogs in response to an email I sent requesting assistance with this issue. I've since sent two emails detailing the issues I'm having and asking to have them resolved. No response. Then yesterday I received a notice in my Discogs mailbox (no email) that my account was put on hold for non payment of invoice fees. WTF! They certainly know how to message me with that information. But no response to my email requesting assistance. I'm done with Discogs!

I think you might have turned on automatic shipping policies.
Check them in your seller settings.

I have checked those settings. All are selected correctly but I'm still not getting emails. Thanks!
I just checked that setting. It shows "Your automatic shipping policies have 0 methods enabled You will have to manually enter shipping costs". So that would indicate the automatic shipping policy is not automatic if I'm reading it correctly. Thanks!

I heard back from Discogs yesterday. They were able to correct the email issue as I received an email yesterday with items that were available from my "want list". They also cancelled the invoice that was created for an item I was selling. Did not get an answer on why the invoice was created without my consent. I've bought quite a lot from Discogs but will forgo trying to sell anything there in the future.

From a buyer's perspective I don't know much about discogs. I really need to buy something from them to understand the experience but right now with all that's going on with shipping it may turn out to be a bad experience but not because of the site or the seller.

Now eBay I can discuss because I've used them for at least 20 years maybe more and in the many thousands of transactions I've had with them I've only been disappointed a handful of times.

Depending on the auction it may be described poorly or pictures of it maybe either be poorly made or taken from an wrong angle but that's on the seller that's not on eBay itself. But when done properly with accurate descriptions and in great detail with good pictures an eBay auction can be very good. Now if you're paying a dollar or two for an item and $3 to ship you pretty much know what you're getting. That's not to say a seller starts and auction off at a $1.99 hoping two people get involved and it becomes worth a lot of money.

You can get bargains there and really good quality stuff for a medium price. Everybody wants to buy a high valued item for nothing. For me I see you on average CDs are worth anywhere between $10 and $20. I understand shipping and tax but if you factor that all in as long as you're happy with the price and you feel that you're getting a value then to me eBay is not that bad a market. recently with people willing to sell things I have been picking up large lots of CDs and paying on average between $4 and $6. so my point is there are deals to be had on eBay but I still am going to try to make a purchase on discogs so that going forward if I do see something there it won't be such a troubling experience to make that purchase.

I’m not having any problems with Discogs sellers because of the pandemic. I’ve had more problems with institutional sellers.

Amazon, ImportCDs and the like, as opposed to the small time individual (could be an Amazon or eBay or Discogs seller).

Agreed. I feel the same way about large institutions they just take money and they treat their employees bad. But small sellers on eBay or even discogs get money from the buyers and it's a little different. I'm trying to help people who are suffering by buying their product directly from them. I'm trying to help America first but I will buy from anybody in the world because I understand everybody suffering.
